I have never flown with them before. I checked in online for a flight tommorrow. I had already bought an aisle seat for $10 in June. So on the web page today they are offering seat changes and I see all but one big seat open , offered for $15. So I click for one leg and it shows $10 and $5 will be charged. So I took both legs at $5 extra. I searched this and I never found anything about this, I thought thee seats were always $50. I just checked my statement and I was charged only $10. Is this something new?

Not familiar with Spirit, but would be interested since they started flying to the metroplex (DFW for those who don't live here).

Please update us after your flight.

Oh, and welcome to FlyerTalk.

I will give you a review of the fight. They just started flying from PDX to LAS
so I'm hoping this is a decent experience since the price is right.

I'm going to be using them for the same leg you are flying in the near future. Similar situation for me... a few months ago when I bought the ticket it listed $50 for a big front seat upgrade. The other day I looked and it was $15. I wasn't checking in but my flight isn't too far from now. I checked Spirits website and it says the Big Front Seat fee can vary from $12 to $100. I don't know what causes it to go up and down, though.

I don't know what causes it to go up and down, though.

Supply and demand

Only one seat left, most likely they'll ask for more. Several seats left, they will most likely try to get a few dollars rather than have it go empty @:-)

OK, I just finished my first trip on Spirit, PDX to LAS.

Better gate location than SW at PDX and LAS
Crew was friendly, plane clean.
Had free under seat bag, put it above when I got onboard. No hassles.
Had big front seat, can't comment on the regular seat horror stories;
Airbus 319 was on this route, so reg. seats are not the worst (see Airbus 320)
Flight from PDX delayed 30 minutes due to onboard computer issue.
Return flight arrived 15 minutes early
Yes they tried to sell the credit card onboard, short speel, no big deal.

I was prepared for the worse (do a net search lol) but I would definitely
book with them again. Seems like a good option for someone who can travel light and avoid the bag charges. I beat SW by over $50 and there wasn't much downside other than their frequent flyer program most likely can't beat SW.

Thanks for the info Tiger. So the plan maybe is to keep checking on the price a few weeks/days in advance. You do get a good boarding with that seat, and it really is big and wide!. I had the second row and even a fully reclined seat in front didn't bother me and Im 6'2".

No discount offered for tomorrow's SJU-FLL flight. $50, take it or leave it. Blah.

Supply and demand is a possible reason for the price fluctuation, but when I first bought the tickets 4 months ago all the big front seats were available and they were asking for $50 a seat each way. I'm guessing if the time gets closer and a majority are still available, maybe then the price goes down. I think there were 5 seats (out of 10) available when I selected to purchase 2 BFS's about 6 days in advance of my flight.

In regards to the seat pitch, I kept reading about how small the seats were, though upon further research figured out my route uses the Airbus 319, so I'd probably be able to manage in a regular seat. I am a tad bit taller than donigan, so at least one way I won't be crammed into the plane :)

Are there no onboard snacks or drinks offered for free for BigSeat purchases?
