Orlando - any Disney resorts better than others for babies?

We're going to WDW in January for the marathon and should have our 2 month old along with us. We're wondering if any of the official properties are better than others as far as babies are concerned? We were thinking Polynesian because of access to the monorail and using the stroller would be easy.

Any other thoughts?

We were there in a couple of years ago for the marathon. I think the thought of having the monorail access is definitely the way to go. The other resorts had shuttle buses, which was fine for going to the park, but coming back from the marathon was a 2 hour wait. Of course, it was 33 degrees and snowing/raining, which was pretty miserable. Being able to take the monorail, would have been preferable to waiting around for the bus.

The monorail runs through the Contemporary Resort.

I would suggest the Contemporary for no other reason than you can walk right into the Magic Kingdom without having to go to the monorail station.

The Poly is also a good choice but you will have to either take the monorail or the small resort launch that stops at the Grand Floridian and Poly.

Keep in mind that of all the resorts on property the Poly and Contemp have the largest rooms making it more comfortable to have a crib in there.

Do you want to be near the Magic Kingdom? If not, the Yacht/Beach clubs are also good choices and you can walk into Epcot.

Other than that, any of the deluxe resorts are a good choice.

I was about to suggest the same..

The Contemporary Resort is steps away from MK entry.. kids usual favorite theme park..

Resident is kids favorite restaurant.. Chef Mickeys'

Monorail is convenient and right there..

For higher end family friendly accomodation, I would say the Grand Floridian.. They have a good kids program.. 1900 Park Fare seems to be a nice gathering place with character dining there.. and the casual fare/ice cream is nice.. lots of families dining in there with kids zipping in and out.. during Christmas, there is the Ginger Bread house set up.. instrumentals add to the background.. monorail serves this hotel as well..

Hi,

I was in WDW for the marathon weekend ( 2011) -but just did the half.

I stayed at the Polynesian. It was great on the morning of the race to walk to the monorail station and take the monorail to Epcot and walk to the assembly area.

Coming back the queues for the monorail were long but I walked around Epcot for a little while then went back on the monorail to the TTC and the Poly with minimal wait ( the 2011 weather for the half was very good)

Good luck!^

Regards

Your instinct to stay at a monorail resort is spot on. Waiting for a bus that early in the morning would be painful.

I prefer contemporary - its the last stop on the way to the finish line and the rooms are a bit less cookie cutter than Floridian. Some of the rooms in the Poly are definitely showing their age.

Cheap.. Family.. Experience.. Convenience of Transport..

I would say Fort Wilderness cabins and riding a boat to Magic Kingdom.. if a monorail hotel doesn't work..

We've done this in the past..

The points about monorail access are sound, but from an enjoyment standpoint for the baby, I'd think one of the All-Star resorts with those over-the-top huge statues of iconic US toys and symbols (Coke cups, etc.), movie characters, and so on would be more entrancing.

Maybe stop by one of those at least.

For a family with a baby, the best accommodations, IMO ,
Is a home with a real baby bed, washer/ dryer , kitchen, strollers,
High chair, baby linens etc etc . Your own rental car to go wherever you want to, and not having to wait for buses is heaven.

Sounds like a Villa would meet your needs at WDW;)

We were booked for the Contemporary Resort new East Tower (I think that's what its called).. and the rooms would have been online for just a month and everything was brand new.. But, had a change of plans, so we did the Fort Wilderness Cabins instead, as available all of a sudden came up..

But both have your amenities. a kitchen, washer/dryer, high chair, crib/linens.. that's perfect for a family..

Rent a 1-BR from a DVC owner. Better deal probably.

I've looked into it the last time out to Disney World, and unfortunately Christmas Week even on points, was going to run our family $650 per night.. for a one bedroom villa.. This was on a re-sale points website.. Definitely the balance of the year, a better deal..

but nothing beat the condo that we obtained for $100 per night at Vista Cay for Christmas Break..

2,100 sq ft, backing on Lake Cay, Granite Kitchen with stainless steel appliances, washer/dryer, 2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, top of line linens, leather couches, completely interior designed, etc
