Does anyone know anything about this property?

It's functional but nothing more. I believe it was at one time a Red Lion, as evidenced by the central building with rooms in numerous connected outbuildings. On my one visit, I ended up having a long conversation with management after my gift shop charges were refused. A colleague also had numerous billing problems, which he was unable to resolve.

I would stay there again, but only if the rate were substantially lower than the rates at other nearby hotels.

You are correct, it is a former Red Lion. I have stayed twice since it has been a DoubleTree, no problems. As HH Gold coupons for managers reception in evening and full buffet breakfast. Hilton is just across the freeway, I prefer the Doubltree.

The Arden area of Sacramento has 3 hotels- Doubletree, Hilton & Red Lion. Doubletree is rather tired looking and overpriced. I like the Hilton better, & it's cheaper, but I was really distressed when I stayed there a few weeks ago. They put me in a room a with huge spots all over the carpet - the stains were so bad I didn't want to walk on the carpet barefoot. I asked for a room change & was told they were full, I asked them to clean the carpet while I was out of the room (the room was unoccupied for 10 hours each day while I was there) to which they stated "it's against policy to clean a carpet in an occupied room". Sadly, the third hotel is Red Lion which,IMO, is pretty bad - the rooms smell funny and a friend of mine staying there last week had someone try to break into her room.

The Hilton is just up the street and is a lot better. I'm Diamond and always get upgraded when I stay there.

The Double Tree is "o.k.", but I would say stay at the Hilton.
FYI: The new Embassy Suites Sacramento Riverfront (http://www.embassysuites.com/en/es/hotels/index.jhtml;jsessionid=VUGFYTYAMOFPVJ31AOQ2ISQ?cty hocn=SACESES) will be open June 15th. Better location and it will be brand new!

FYI there has been some local press coverage in Sacramento about the high incidence of auto break-ins/thefts at all 3 Arden Area hotels. (Arden is a high property crime area, and none of these hotels have secured parking lots).

For Starwood types, there is a nice new Sheraton downtown, and as other posts indicate, a new Embassy Suites in a neat location near Old Sacramento.

There is a large shopping mall on Arden Way that accounts for car break-ins, stereo thefts, etc. The same thing you get in most cities.

Sacramento visitors don't be alarmed, the Arden Area is safe.

Dude
Arden is both "safe" and a "high property crime area." These are not mutually exclusive; crimes against property i.e. auto break-ins have little to do with personal safety.

OTOH, for Sacramento visitors who value their automobile, there may be better choices than Arden.

My favorite Sacramento Hilton property is the Hilton Garden Inn in Natomas. It works for me as it is close to work, shopping, good restaurants on the river.

Travel Weary: Yes, HGI-South Natomas is OK; but MAN-OH-MAN the noise from Highway 5, just outside your window All Night Every Night, is terrible. I wonder why they didn't soundproof this hotel LOTS more effectively? I won't stay there again. Back to Arden Way; looking forward to Embassy Suites' opening, if they don't make it a $169 property consistently.

{BTW, Ken is right: I don't consider the Arden hotels to have any danger at all--- and your car should be fine if it's parked in sight of the front door. I can't imagine any thief stupid enough to hit a busy hotel's lot when there are malls and businesses nearby with bigger, less busy lots)

The Natomas area is very nice. Also recommend the two Marriott properties - Res. Inn and Courtyard near the HGI. Easy drive from any of the three to the airport or Old Town. I've received very good rates at the two Marriotts, less so at the HGI.

I stayed at the Courtyard (which I liked also) 1-2 times a month for over a year, and every time I checked in they would try to give me a room opposite my profile. I saw the same front desk clerks everytime and everytime they asked me the same questions. When the HGI opened I moved to Hilton and have been happier at the treatment I receive.

BTW, I have never noticed road noise there for some reason. Now the Homeless Village down the street where I stayed once was really noisy.

Stayed at the Doubletree on 8-22. Nice room, good treatment as a Gold, nice and well-kept hotel, nice area, good and reasonable restaurants nearby. Great rate. Major complaint was the pool and hot tub were too cold.

A mystery to me - it had been 101 the day before. However, the pool felt under 70 and the spa about 80. Usable, but hardly warm.

I know earlier I said stay at the Hilton down the street. Well now I'm saying stay at the Doubletree.

I'm getting upgraded to Suites about 90% of the time. At Hilton, I was getting upgraded to the top floors but they NEVER upgrade you to a suite. That is their policy.

Stay at the Doubletree. You will enjoy it more.
