Hi,

I have just returned from 4 nights at the above hotel(23rd to 27th August). The review is below.

Check in was quick and was given room 153* on the Exexutive floor ( top floor of the hotel). Breakfast vouchers were in the folder already and shown to me by the check in woman.

The room was well maintained overlooking the pool and the Union Bank of California. I had a king size bed and it had high speed internet access ($10 for up to 24 hours - from noon to noon the next day and the infrared keyboard worked quickly).
There was a minibar in the room and the prices were quite reasonable ($2 for a can of coke). The bathroom was large, well lit and had good water pressure even being on the top floor.Soundproofing was good, there was a side window that opened slightly and the a/c worked well.
The coffee maker had 4 sachets of coffee (in previous hotels there has only been two)
The breakfast buffet at the Ascari restaurant on the 2nd floor was good and included several hot selections.
The food and service at lunch and dinner were very good. You could also pick your choice from the menu to go.
The gym in Two World Trade centre where the hotel is charged $10 per day but did not use it as I was walking for most of the day. There are restaurants and shops in One World Trade Centre ( adjacent).
The hotel is very well situated being 10 minutes walk from the Aquarium of the Pacific, Pine Avenue(shopping and restaurants and the Blue Line Metro) and the Catalina Express terminal for Catalina Island. There are regular and free Passport shuttle busses going to Pine Avenue, Queen Mary and Catalina Express.
The pool was a bit shallow ( 2.5- 3ft deep only) and shaped like a half circle but was ok to cool off. It was open from 6am-11pm and was busy on Friday/Saturday during the evening but quiet during the day and on Sunday/Moday evenings. It is on the 2nd level outside over the drive up lane to reception and overlooking Ocean Boulevard.
I got a daily turn down service (around 6pm) where the maid came in, turned down the bed, placed two chocolates on the table, emptied the bins, restocked the coffee maker and repalced any used towels. I found this to be excellend as around 5 I had showered and going out for dinner and having a cup of coffee and returning to find a made up room again was impressive.
Newspaers were delivered daily.
Check out time was 12 noon but I asked for and got a 2pm check out with no problem.
I also got two small bottles of water every day ( very pleased with this )
Overall a very good hotel, good recognition of HH guests , good location and good services with the only negative point being the shallowness of the pool ( I thought the Luxor pool in Las Vegas was shallow at 3.5ft deep) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif .
It is $15 by Super Shuttle from LAX and took around 20 minutes heading back in normal traffic (traffic was v.heavy on Friday 4pm and took 1 hour )

Regards

My parents live in Long Beach, and have often told me that they often go to the Hilton in the World Trade Center for dinner. They took me there last night - and it really was great. They had good food, reasonable prices (if there before 7:00 check the full dinner including dessert for $13.95) - and it isn't crowded at all.

But mostly the staff was extremely friendly.

If Monica is the hostess - tell someone it is a birthday, and hopefully she will sing Happy Birthday. A truly unbelievable voice - she is working on a singing career - and though I don't pretend to be an expert, I'd say she has one of the best voices I've ever heard.
