Hilton HHonors - Hilton Beds Too Firm?

Does anyone else find the beds in Hiltons to be so firm as to sometimes be uncomfortable and make for a bad night's sleep?

First time I noticed this was at the Hilton Milwaukee River, which after two months of staying there I moved despite the great staff, service, restaurant, riverside location, etc. I felt bad leaving B8t I was so stressed out by my work that then I couldn't sleep on those extra firm beds.

Then recently, at the Hilton Newark Airport for just one night, I had a hard time falling asleep again for the same reason.

Doubletree and Embassy do not seem to have the same beds, and I liked the way the Embassy bed in New York City was cushy without being saggy.

IMHO, I don't think the beds are too firm for my aching back. But I think they are harder than those found in Starwood's properties though.

While Heavenly Bed is great, I hope you don't expect to find it at Starwood's lower end properties - Four Points hotels. FWIW, the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept on was at the Four Points St. Louis West.

Actually I like most of the the nice Hilton matresses, but the crappy foam K-Mart style pillows gotta go.

Comments box doesn't get me feathers, but a call to housekeeping does!

For me, there is no such thing as a mattress that is "too firm." On the other hand, once in a while my wife and I will run into mattresses that have long outlived their usefulness.

Strangely enough, it happens mainly at Homewood Suites, about 1/4 of the time I stay there.

I love the Hilton firm mattresses.

What I can't stand are the flimsy Marriott mattresses. They are like a waterbed without enough water. Then they use unfitted sheets that pull up and slide around on top of the mattress which isn't covered by a mattress pad. Yuck!!

Clearly I'm in the minority. Once I saw a card in a Hilton actually advertising their mattresses for sale from the manufacturer. I thought it was crazy, but clearly they've got quite a few fans -- more power to you.

I rarely stay at Hilton properties - but I was never disappointed by the bed. A firm bed is much better for the back than a soft one. If I have to sleep in a soft bed, it was the first and last time I was in the hotel - regardless if the bed has nice names like "Heavenly Bed". IMO, the bed that is too hard doesn't exist.

If you want a FIRM mattress, try the Hilton Seremban Malaysia.

Whilst it doesn't seem to be comfortable (i don't like tough mattresses, prefer soft and float into it! - i had the most awesome, comfortable, enjoyable, refreshed sleep after sleeping on them. Found the bed was a little bit short on the end though...

It's been a while since I've had a really bad experience on a Hilton mattress... but I still find myself choosing Doubletree over Hilton because of the mattress issue.

I'm such a dope! I never thought to ask for a feather pillow.... i just sleep with my head in the crack between 2 of those boulders.

I thought the worst Hilton family hotel mattress was at Conrad Singapore. The hotel is nice enough but the mattress isn't. My stay was in last October.

The Beverly Hilton bed is better than Westin's Heavenly Bed.

Have to disagree on Conrad Singapore, found the mattress very comfortable.

Hilton Millenium bed is awesome, not hard at all! I stayed there for a few weeks near the end of the year and was so sad when we moved uptown. I am almost inclined to say better than the Heavenly Bed... .

I agree 100%, the beds there are awesome!

Beds in the Conrad Bangkok are less soft and yielding than the bathroom floor and are probably the hardest and most uncomfortable beds I have ever slept in.

Beds at the Hilton London Metropole are very soft and comfortable, and are probably the best beds I have experienced in any Hilton worldwide.

My quote above was in reference more to the extremely uncomfortable texture of the sheets, not the mattress itself.

My personal preferences info with Hilton states 'King Bed No Smoking' and I'm almost always successful at getting a big bed. During my sleeps at a Nashville ES this past week (the one with the great lobby), I actually thought about how it would be to have a bed like this at home, and it got me remembering that I'd never had anything but a great king bed in any Hilton family hotel anywhere. Asia, Europe, England, Canada, the US of A -I always enjoy the big beds.
Don't recall any particularly good beds those times I end up in 'doubles'.

I concur. Rock hard beds. Great pillows though.

However the Doubletree brand is winning my business big time thanks to their excellent new bed ^ :-: :-: :-:
It is equal to the best Starwood beds(Westin,Sheraton,W) and is superior to the Hyatt Grand bed
The linens IMO are not up to the quality of the bed but certainly acceptable

Off topic The Beverly Hilton is an excellent property now.
I hope Hilton will copy the formula in this brilliant makeover and do it to their other properties.It would fast become one of my top brands of choice..

I agree. My boyfriend says that my bed is like sleeping on an examination table.

I used to stay at a Hilton in Turkey with a bed as firm as my own at home. I loved it - every time I stayed there, I got the best sleep.

I like a soft mattress. I bought a pillowtop and a featherbed thing for mine at home. The Shinjuku Hilton mattress was the hardest thing I've ever slept on. Well, except for maybe a holiday inn in which I stayed on the way to hiroshima. Next time I'm going to ask for a better pillow. I actually never even considered doing that.

I bought one of these beds for myself, and it is the best sleep I ever had. All the tossing and turning that hubby can do does not wake me up. It even has labels on the corners, telling you when to turn the mattress.

Starwoods training is better with their agents and seems to have greater clarity in advertising. Which at the end of the day is clear in the consumer’s minds.
Hilton is a great company and it should clarify branded products/information in all areas of its website content and advertising more clearly.

Yes, I generally prefer the Westin beds but the Beverly Hilton and SLC Hilton have beds much better than Heavenly. They are definitely not too firm, just perfect in my opinion.

I'm going to revive this really old thread and ask if anyone else thinks the new Hampton Inn beds are too firm. Obviously some think you can never be firm enough, but last night at a Hampton Inn I was tossing and turning all night since it was too firm and ended up sleeping on top of the comforter for some give. I then asked to change rooms and was told every bed is the same (which I guess makes sense). I tried anyway and it still seems way too firm for me.

It sucks now that Hilton has a double points promo that I might end up staying at a Choice hotel or something for a cheaper, mushier bed!

I'm OK with the Hampton beds, but like the firmness-adjustable HGI Sleep System beds I bought a mattress for my home. I like my side firmer, Lady JDiver likes hers not so firm - she says "it's like sleeping in my own cloud." She never said that at a Hampton...

The beds at Hilton Istanbul is way too firm for my taste, but this is easy countered with a call to housekeeping. They will add a softer mattress on top of the standard stone. Sometimes I even ask them to get me double.

Actually I think for me this problem is much more frequent in Hilton than in other chains. I never had an issue in a Starwood or Hyatt property.

Personally, I think HGI and Hilton beds are AMAZING. HGIs in DC and VA where you can adjust the firmness, and Hiltons with their butter soft sheets and perfectly cushy smooshy mattress... I sleep better while travelling than I do at home.

I love the Hampton Inn beds... They're wonderfully firm, but then again, I'm one of those who thinks a bed can't be firm enough. Shortly after Mr. Kipper and I got married, we started shopping for a mattress. When we started shopping, he kept complaining that all of the mattresses I liked were too firm. Now, he's the one that really complains if the mattress is too soft. :)

I am so glad to hear this.. well, not glad.. but glad I am not the only one! I love the beds at the Hilton and Hampton, but find the new HGI beds hard as a rock. I can't figure out how to adjust them at all. No matter where I move the dial, the bed remains HARD. The last time I stayed at a HGI I almost slept on the floor.

Well that explains some of the rock hard beds I've experienced at HGI's. I love the Hampton beds. I noticed the Serta trailer outside one Hampton Inn that had new beds installed earlier in the day and I had a great sleep that night. Everyone in the breakfast area were all cheerfull too which I had never seen before. I ended up getting a Serta perfect sleeper because of my experience at various Hamptons.
