Folks Aer Lingus are now allowing pax to upgrade their economy meal to a premium meal , choice of fillet steak (15euro), salmon (12.50) or some kind of veg curry (10euro) includes cheesecake for dessert, ceasar salad for starter and wine( normally 5euro) . Seems like good value and meals are def more substantial , anyone tried one yet , as I said it's only on EI105 DUB-JFK for moment but am sure it will appear on other routes soon

As this is not a trip report and more suited to the Other European Frequent Flyer forum I shall move it over.

I assume this is what EI means by "virtual business class" mentioned here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/other-european-frequent-flyer-programs/1253988-aer-lingus-2011-first-half-results-alliance-update.html#post17217975

I couldn't find any information on their website - so how exactly does it work? Is it an option in the "Manage My Booking" facility to "upgrade" the meal? Or do they send you an email with the details of how to obtain one if youre booked on a flight where this is possible?
I can't imagine that they only do this on board...

At moment they are only doing it on board but I'd imagine if will go online soon , only thing is if I book a flight for next march how do I know what I'm going to want to eat on that flight, I don't even know what I'll have for dinner tonight lol
Anyway it will be interesting to see how it goes

I'd assume that you'd be allowed to edit it online before 24 hours, just like if you ordered a SPML on most airlines...

Nah, the staff look after the oversupply. ;)
I imagine this is inventoried using the usual mix for J, plus what has been specifically ordered for Y.
