Asiana Club - Are OZ Y to C upgradeable fares pricey?

I guess to upgrade from Y to C, one must purchase an "upgradeable" Y fare.

Are these pricey for OZ?
Several hundred maybe?

For KE, it can be $400 to $700 for example on a cheap ticket of $1100 or so.
It's quite expensive.

Thanks!

For SFO-ICN, my experience has been upgradeable fares were $300 to $500 more expensive than other mileage earning fares.

Thank you!

I just got a reply from Asiana saying I have to buy B fare and above, for upgrades.

However, it seems I cant buy those fares online and if I want those, i would have to call up Asiana or talk to a travel agent.

This seems so 1990s...wish Asiana would publish and let people buy upgradeable fares online.

There are positives and negatives to the 'calling up' approach. When I did it, there was no 'award' space open in the J cabin for one sector, but, rather than just a standard 'computer says no' response you would get online, the agent said she would call me back the following day while she worked on getting it opened up. This she did, and the flights were fantastic.

Just to add, OZ isn't the only airline to do this.

As weird as it sounds, some airlines offer better deals via travel agents, than their own website. And when you call them up they openly instruct you to call the travel agents else to get a better rate!

It just happens that this is something I was also thinking about doing relatively soon (use my 50% voucher!) but, after having a (very brief, admittedly) look online I couldn't see an online agent for Asiana tickets. Anyone have any recommendations? (I'll prob want to fly ICN-SYD)

I would go one step further. Most airlines will have better deals through other channels for premium international tickets. Hardly ever will you get the best deal on the airlines website.
