Glen Allen is in the West End of Richmond. It is corporate alley. There are some decent Hilton properties here.
There is a very nice HGI right in the heart of Insbrook. It is pretty new and clean. It also has an indoor pool. I have gotten some very nice treatment there. There is a Homewood Suites right around the corner. It is nice as well. There is also a Hampton in proximity to these. If you're looking to mattress hop for maximum stays/miles, this is place. You can literally see the other two from any of these properties.
This is a pretty nice part of Richmond. There are some good restaurants and a Kinko’s just up the road. It is very business friendly.
If you’d like recommendations on restaurants, things to do, etc., feel free to E-mail me.
There is also an Embassy a couple miles down the road.
Just stay away from RIC airport Hilton!
The Hilton Garden Inn in Glen Allen is quite nice. Of the hotels in the area, it is nicer than either the Courtyard, Hampton Inn, Embassy Suites, Comfort Suites and some of the other local hotels.
Feel free to e-mail me as well for advice/feedback on some of the local restaurants.

Anybody have an opinion on the Richmond airport homewood suites?
Looking at doing an upcoming Fri at the Glen allen HGI, and looking for a suite for Saturday.
Glen allen homewood looking tight and expensive for Sat, but there's a good rate at the airport location for what is called a king /parlor ?? suite. Will this include a sofabed? Any comments on the property ?

As a Glen Allen resident I can confirm what others have said about the properties in the Innsbrook area of town. There are several restaurants that are an easy walk from the Hampton, HGI and Homewood in Glen Allen. The airport is not in the best area of town. The Homewood there just opened in the last month or two.

You've already gotten some good recommendations for places to stay so I'd like to offer one for when you get cabin fever in Glen Allen.

This is less than a minute's walk from the HGI and easily walkable from the other Hilton properties in the Glen Allen area.
Edited to add: Ooops -- I hadn't paid close enough attention when I posted my advice to note that this is a revival of a very old thread to ask a question about a different part of the Richmond metropolitan area.
But it's still a good restaurant.
I think the HGI is the best pick. You do not want to stay at the airport and if you want to be closer in to town than Glen Allen, choose another property than Embassy Suites....I'm not real crazy about it. There are lots of hotels out there and fortunately if you're interested in Hilton properties only, some good ones.
Richmond has one of the finest art museums that you will find in a city that size. If you like that sort of thing, worth asking at your chosen hotel.
Not to mention Civil War history. Given a rental car and a day, you can trace the end-game of the War. It is compelling, as well as spooky.

Indeed! I hope the OP wasn't asking for advice four years in advance :D
Have to say Capital Ale House is pretty nice at Innsbrook. Decent outdoor terrace with pond and a truly gargantuan beer menu including some beers from my part of the UK ^

If I remember correctly, the Capital Ale House is a very short walk from the Hilton Garden Inn.
Just saw my reply above from four years ago! The HGI is still a nice place the last time I stayed there and a short walk to many restaurants.
I agree, the Capital Ale Haus is pretty nice. It is a short walk there from any of the Hilton properties, but if you happen to have a couple of beers off the menu, it is a fairly long stumble back!
I've stayed at the HI right down the street from the Capital Ale House on Broad Street - decent property. The one thing that seperated that from other HI's I've been to is the great service! Great people that try to make your stay as comfortable as possible - definitely a welcome change from other HI's I frequent. Just my 2 cents... :D
