Hilton HHonors - Homeless for 4 weeks - suggestions?

G'day,
I will be between contracts and homeless for 4 weeks (July 15th to August 15th). I have 400,000 HHonor points and I need a place to relax for a while. I have tried looking at the Point Stretcher award table but it does not show availability beyond June 2002. I am looking for suggestions.

If you had 4 weeks with nothing to do and 400,000 HH points - where would you go and do? I need to geographically limit my self to North, Central, South America (freebee LP tickets).

I'm very interested to follow this thread. I'll have a long winter and though of transfering points to HH and doing the same thing.

I know the gold 100K for six night in HHV, but we gotta do beter than that.

Keep me in the loop!

Why not try a week on the big island of Hawaii and then move to Oahu and just keeping bouncing around Hawaii? I could think of worse places to spend a month's vacation.

There's no Hilton there but it is ~$20/nt for room and breakfast in the NE of Brasil. Four weeks exploring the coast between Maceio and Natal would be just about right.

Brazil is a great idea, although it is winter in Brazil I think. Perhaps there are Hiltons in the Andes where you could snow ski?

You could do Boston, MA for a week. Nice weather and plenty of American history to keep you busy. Then head over to Las Vegas. It would be really hot but there are tons of swimming pools and all the casinos are air conditioned. See the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. Maybe head to Colorado for a week and see the Rockies? It's hurricane season in Florida/Caribean but could always try your luck on the beaches.Clearwater Beach or even Key West.

Depends what your priorities are, so I suppose we would give suggestions as if we were in your shoes.

Go someplace and practice one of your hobbies- for me, I would go to Hilton Vancouver Airport and go skiing once a week in Whistler. Hilton property is nice as I believe it is all suites and the Canadian exchange rate is fabulous. Plus you get great international food fare.

If money is not an object, then visit Boston, DC or NY and explore these cities and their history further. These cities will also have possibly better business centers if you want to get things done as well.

If you just want to rest and do nothing, choose a property in the Caribbean and lounge all day at the beach.

And lastly, if you want to feel most at home, stay at Embassy Suites so that you have an evening reception every evening, a microwave and fridge in your suite and full breakfast every morning! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

It's not a Hilton, but you might want to stay in the downtown Seattle Hyatt for a few days and check out that lovely city. Priceline is dispensing Elliott Hyatt rooms for only $40 (plus parking, taxes and fees).

You can see more about it on the Hyatt board and in the FlyerTalk Community board (SeaDoo 4 threads).

Worldbanker the folks at Tourism Vancouver thank you very much for the plug; however, truth in advertising laws require me to dispell the popular mistruth that we have snow in Canada year-round. In July and August in Whistler, you need golf clubs or hiking boots, not skis and snowboards.

Your points about the great exchange rate, outstanding international food and beautiful people are spot on. Ok maybe it was my point about the beautiful people. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I love FT. You are unique. Where else would I get such positive exciting feedback?

Embassy Suites looks like a real option. I'll also check the Hyatt deal. I normally of course do not have such nice problems so forgive me for basking in the limelight http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I need to talk to HHonors about available point stretcher locations but it is very difficult to phone Hilton and say - I want to stay some places for a few weeks here and there, and I am not sure where I want to go but do you have any good point stretcher awards available?" I think I'll get the old "call back when your head is on straight" reply.

Cheers,

Dave - London,UK

It should get down to about 75F/23C at night in Maceio then. Bring a sweater. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Don't forget about the Homewood Suites and the Doubletree Guest Suites. Both of these offer full kitchens, a big plus if you are going to send that much time at one location. Most of the Homewoods I have stayed at offer a limited (beer and wine)reception on weeknights and a snack which can easily be dinner.

Also, Homewoods should not deplete your point balance and most offer free parking!

As a former expat, married to a Brit and now settled in Florida, I invite you to spend the time here. Good beaches, Mickey is just a drive away and the fishing is good. Hope to see you soon.

Here's a neat way to save the 400K points and get free lodging for the month...sign up for a short-term mission opportunity. You can find many choices doing a simple internet search. You'll learn about another culture, get in great shape, and change your world view. Just one guy's opinion from the FF peanut gallery.

So what did you end up doing, where did you go?

At 7/10 cent/point, those points are worth $100/night. If you're going to have a car, I'd seriously consider attempting to use Priceline for some of those nights. Go check out the biddingfortravel site. With a $60/night target, you could do very well, and save 200,000 of those points for another vacation.
