We're going to be in Long Beach late September and wondered if anyone has had any good/bad experiences at the Hilton Long Beach.

Thanks for your help!

Any FT'ers have any recent thoughts on this property?

ie - promixity to shops, quality of rooms, exec lounge, parking facilities, any other tips?

Also - i'm considering of going the cheap way from LAX to the hotel. How easy is it to get on the blue metro from the airport to LGB? One way i am thinking now is the Hilton Garden Inn Shuttle El Segundo (stay 1 night) and then catching the Green line from next to the hotel?

The LAX shuttle can take you to the Green Line, then to the Blue line, which you would take to Pine Ave. Then you would still have a half mile walk (due west on Ocean. While the Metro goes thru some bad areas, I'm never hesitant to take it (when I'm on my own and not company dime).

The Hilton is at the World Trade Center, and there are no shops near it, except for going back to Pine Ave. And, if you take Pine south past Ocean Blvd. to the water, then you have Shoreline Village, which has a fair amount of non-trendy shops. Best shopping is down the bike path a couple of miles to Second St. at Belmont Shores.

Parking is under the hotel, and I'm thinking $8 per day.

BTW, I've never stayed, but it's where we put up our of town staff, and while I've never heard complaints, nobody has been that impressed, now that I think of it.

I have not stayed there, but my parent's live nearby, and often go to the restaurant. It is reasonably priced, and has excellent food, and a great staff.

They took me there on my birthday once - and the hostess (I don't know if she is still there) turned out to be in the early stages of a professional singing career - she sang Happy Birthday and it was incredible.

Next to the Checkers breakfast, this property has one of the best Diamond breakfasts I've experienced. Full buffet, incl. lox, etc. If you ask, they'll upgrade you to a corner junior suite, which is really just an enlarged room that may or may not have an outside balcony.
