Does anyone have any experiences with these properties?

We're considering staying overnight in the area instead of driving home after a day trip.

It seems that the Hampton Inn is a little better located.

We previously stayed at the Willows, and were not satisfied. It appears to be the only resort type property in the area (without driving to Hershey & staying at the Hershey Inn).

Since Hilton has been so good to us in the past year (thanks for the gold) we have been making an effort to stay at Hiltons whenever possible.

Opinions? Any other ideas?

Mary

Mary,
My wife stayed at the Hampton Inn in Lancaster and was very satisfied. Very convenient, too, and cheaper than the Hilton Garden Inn. The downside is that it was very crowded.....but thats Amish Country in August.

I'm staying at the HGI 9/9 on business. It's highly recommended by the vendor I'm visiting. He's totally into HH so I'm sure they give all gold benefits.

Both are good properties. The HGI-Lancaster according to the following is "notably the first-ever Hilton Garden Inn and the first recipient of the Hilton Pride Innovation Award".

I'm looking for an update on this topic. My wife and I (no Kids) will be visiting Amish country next month. How do these two hotels compare as far as breakfast opportunities, etc?

I have now stayed at both several times. HGI has a the usual nice spread, with $2 for golds to upgrade to full. HI only had the high carb stuff when I was last there. Very nice HI, so they have probably added the new stuff. I would call and check if this is an issue.

Stayed at the HGI in december.Got full breakfast as gold-were on mattress run to make diamond,we qualified the next night. The place was fairly empty so that is probably why the full breakfast.
It was a very comfortable but as you say on the wrong side of town for the tourist areas, but it doesnt take long to get anywhere.I would reccomend it.

The HGI is nice. They have free High Speed Internet, and a good breakfast spread. Isaac's, a nice sandwich place, is in the plaza across the street. If you are shopping at the outlets, it is about 5 minutes further away, but is closer to downtown Lancaster.

The HGI-Lancaster according to the following is "notably the first-ever Hilton Garden Inn and the first recipient of the Hilton Pride Innovation Award".I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Lancaster many years ago, when it was the first Hilton Garden Inn. I used to stay in the upper-floor rooms which had extra-high ceilings, and the property was remarkably different than the familiar iteration of the current Hilton Garden Inn concept. I thought to myself, “What in the world is a Hilton Garden Inn and what is so great about it?” Of course, I was used to staying in full-service Hilton properties back then and was somewhat disappointed, but I did not get any benefits of which to speak back then, such as free breakfast or US$5.00 towards items in the Pantry.

I do not know if it has changed or has been remodeled since then, but it was a nice though unremarkable property.

I've been to the Hilton Garden Inn a couple times in the past year for functions. It's a decent property. Clean, bright, what you'd expect in a Garden Inn.

The Eden Resort is probably the nicest property in the area; however, it's a Best Western. It's much nicer than you'd expect a Best Western to be.

I haven't stayed at either property -- I've just attended trade shows/functions at them so my opinion is of the public areas, not the rooms.

Which of these two properties are better for a family of four (2 adults/4-year old/infant) visiting Dutch Wonderland? I'm HH Gold which I realize won't do much at HI but possibly snag a suite upgrade at HGI.

My HGI stay on a weekend got me a corner room, slightly bigger, but no suite. Continental breakfast as well, as others have pointed out. Nothing special. If I were to do it again, I'd do the HI for the stay credit, buy breakfast dowentown at the farmers market.
