I have a deliberately long layover at SYD coming up, arriving SYD at 0740 (CA) and leaving to AKL (NZ J) at 1835. I intend to take a trip into Sydney but would like to use the NZ lounge for a shower first.

The Aus & NZ forum has advised me this is possible but tricky. I'd have to go through transit security to Departures and then ask the lounge to get me an escort back to Arrivals and Immigration, and apparently immigration could decide I may be up to something.

Does anyone have any experience of this? Failing that, is it possible to phone the lounge and get their thoughts (number?). I don't really want to get to the lounge and then be stuck there for 10 hours!

Thanks!

I've done it, conveniently leaving a rollaboard in the lounge while rambling around Sydney. Instead of getting the lounge to escort, I approached transit security going the wrong way and asked to be let through, which required a bit of persuading. This led to immigration & customs, which didn't hassle me.

Have a nice visit!

Your other option is to use one of the public showers in the arrivals hall. If you look for one of the rather hidden ones you'll prob find that around your arrival time in the morning they're clean and ok to use.

Thanks, I'll maybe ask at transit security before crossing into departures. Getting a few hours in the city is more important than getting to the lounge.
