We had a nice one night stay at this property, my wife and I (both Gold) got our room and our kids room upgraded to small suites. An average hotel but I only paid $62. If you're a soccer fan, you'll love this place. There are signed jersey's from US and Euro Pro teams as well as US Natl teams all over the lobby. There's a competition quality field on the hotel property!
We were offered breakfast, after asking. They gave us two certs per room only. They were good for their "All-American buffet breakfast" Or, they good for $7 (I think) towards anything on the breakfast menu. Since there were 6 of us, and we were heading to Singer Island where they give all 6 of us free killer brunch, we decided not to spring for the rest of us for breakfast, and bought doughnuts nearby.
I noticed this morning that I still have the 4 breakfast coupons (undated) if anyone wants them!

WHAT A DUMP!!!! I am just amazed that this property can call itself a Hilton.
Bed was mediocre, crappy fabric, stains on the furniture, shower curtain, tub.
Huge console in the bedroom, open to find a tiny TV.
I didn't use it, but pool area was puny for the size hotel that this is.
The most positive thing I can say about the place is that with my free continental breakfast coupon applied to the hot breakfast, my total breakfast bill was $4.50
FWIW, I was Gold when I checked in.

Stayed there many times over the years, with good accomodations, but the most recent stay last year was a total disappointment due to the conditions of the rooms (switched rooms twice due to the lousy shape they were in). If they haven't remodeled by now, I wouldn't consider it again for any stays. Staff is fine, hotel layout is good, but the condition of the worn out rooms is terrible. Letter to the hotel manager after last year's stay (family emergency, resulting in a nine day stay), got me a cert for one night stay, but I haven't used it (expired now after one year), and I'll be sending it back to them with additional comments as to why it hasn't been used.
This hotel needs a major room refurbishing.

Was there a month ago and the hotel was still picking up from the latest Hurricane (after several weeks), and the front elevator was still not working and there were bits of debris (tree leaves, branches) on the hallway floors -- probably just tracked in or blown in and not fully picked up? It was a little surreal that they were open for business with this type of garbage sitting around and such. The parking lot was full of trees and branches, and you could see where trees had been uprooted and torn the cement.
I tried to take all this into consideration during my stay, giving them some slack for having just been through what they had.
Overall, the service from the staff was acceptable, although not outstanding.
The hotel is certainly nothing glamorous and very dated. There was a leak of some sort in my room (not sure where the water on the carpet was coming from), but given the look of the damage around the hotel I didn't complain.
No complaints overall from my stay, but it is just not a very nice place that I'd want to go back to. I normally stay at the Westin in FLL, and I'll probably go back there again since I haven't found any Hiltons nearby that are worth staying at.

Stay tuned, new Hilton sked to open in the fall at the intersection of A1A and Sunrise Blvd reported to be quite nice. That general area is going have a ton of upscalee properties with SPGs The Atlantic, new W and St Regis all under construction.

We were in the area a couple of months ago and saw the construction on the new Hilton. If I recall correctly, it will be right beside a Trump property.
I am really looking forward to the new Hilton being completed.
I had thought about stayig at the Sunrise Hilton but decided against it after reading this thread back in Jan '06. We drove by the property when we were down there and I am glad we did not stay there, even for the two nights we had planned.

Checking the Hilton website for FLL rates for May, I couldn't find a listing for the Sunrise Hilton, and as YVR Cockroach noted, it is indeed no longer a Hilton property, as confirmed to me by email from Hilton.
Too bad, as the owners just let the property get run down, and then it looks like the hurricanes put it finally down. Ten/fifteen years ago, it was a good place to stay, if you had business or family in the area, but it sure had changed for the worse over the past few years.
Staff were always accomodating, so it must be a disappointment to them. I wonder if it's going to be sold or rebranded (and hopefully have major refurbishing), or what's in the future for the hotel.

I drove past this hotel last night on my way home from work, and the Hilton sign on University Ave. has been covered with a temporary blue and white sign bearing the new name of the hotel (Las Palmas, or something like that). The lighting in the parking lot was extremely dim - saving money, perhaps?

Was checking on expedia.ca for hotels in the FLL (Sunrise/Plantation area)for later this month and saw the listing for the "Las Palmas". When I clicked on it, and checked the expedia reviews for the hotel, I saw "reviews" from June and November, 2005. Strange, since the property had been a Hilton until April, 2006, and got generally bad reviews on tripadvisor and here on FT. The Las Palmas reviewers gave good marks to the new branding, but if it wasn't a "Las Palmas" last year.....????
Makes one kinda wonder where expedia.ca got their "reviewers" .
Still looking for Hilton properties in the area, but it looks like I'm limited to only Hamptons for the Sunrise/Plantation area.
