There's a new airport shuttle option offering transport to/from HNL for 14.55 a person:

Yup but pricing varies based on destination. Also not sponsored by the state--licensed is the better word. State doesn't subsidize the operation.

Got quoted $25+ for a o/w ride to town.

Thats cheaper than what I paid for a Taxi to my Condo in Waikiki. I paid almost 40 bucks to get here the last time I flew....

Also saw Roberts is going to start a service as well.....

Roberts Hawaii has had airport shuttles for years, probably decades--and for much less. I think it was $15 round-trip last time I was there in June.

I swear the Advertiser said they were starting a new service of some sorts.....

Need to look... Either way, if they will come fetch me for the cheap....I'll start doing that since Charlie's likes to charge much more than that....

Probably taxi for one or two would make sense to go the shuttle route..

but then you don't get the customized service, and tends to take longer to drop off and pick up.. not to mention the schedule it runs..

I think it depends where you are in Honolulu. Looks like the flat rate to Honolulu or Waikiki with taxes is $29.09. Airport parking in the econ lot can be had for $12/day I think (compared to $15/day in the main lot). So there's a breakeven point somewhere once adjusted for convenience of being able to drive away without waiting for a shuttle.

Believe the *Advertiser article was referring to the existing Robert's shuttle service and not some new service. And everything to the airport is regulated with a monopoly-esque contract. So even if Robert's wanted to start a "shuttle" service, it couldn't. Speedishuttle was awarded that contract.

Speedishuttle has the franchise service now. They are the only ones that can operate the "without reservations" shuttle service from the airport. As a result, fares to Waikiki have gone from $9ow/$14rt to $14+ow/$26+rt.

Roberts still operates an "advance reservations only" shuttle for $12ow/$20rt, but you must make reservations at least one day in advance. Roberts was always good going back to the airport from my hotel, but had been horrible lately leaving the airport (45+ minute waits, begging to get on a bus when there are plenty of seats available, rude staff, made me walk three blocks to my hotel, etc.).

How has Speedishuttle been so far or should I make reservations with Roberts?

So what was the verdict? Did you go Roberts or Speedishuttle?

In what way are these services better than thebus? I imagine they take about the same amount of time since they stop at many hotels. What am I missing?

If you have more luggage than a backpack or briefcase, the bus isn't an option.

Std carryon plus small backpack OK on TheBus. Must not be put in the aisle.

TheBus is the proper name for the "local" bus (I.e., mass transit).
