Budget Travel - How have Ryanair handled typos/misspellings

Hi

I have a small typo in the lastname of the tickets, both my wife and I. I put "o" instead of "õ" in our last names, ordinary keyboards don't even have this letter.

Is there a policy at Ryanair(or pan-europe) about typos or foreign characters?

I know people have got through the gate with typos, but I want to know if _anybody_ here has the opposite experience with Ryanair and a small typo - that they have been denied the flight? If its even one person who was not let on to the plane because of this, I would phone in and try to explain. Also do they just deny you the boarding or is there an option to pay for it on spot and still get on?

I know the official answer is to call ryanair premium line, but I have a long route with total of 12 tickets to amend and also I find impossible to explain the letter over the phone, no other country uses the letter or pronouncation of it and there is no option to explain it through email.

thanks,
rik

How big crime would it be to amend the online checkin paper and put the tilde on top of the "o" to be sure, I think they look at the paper and passport together at the gate. They can match it against the checking system display and shoot me on spot?

I think you're overthinking it.

Just go to the airport and act like everything is normal.

They will definitely not check this closely. Every time I go its always a really brief look, certainly not enough to find the special tildas etc.

Alternatively a little coffee spill on your ticket does wonders!

No.

You will have no issues whatsoever. I don't think Ryanair even accepts accented characters to book.

For others who search for this question - the name typo wasn't a problem.

Additionally out of 6 flights around europe only 2 times I saw them use the bag-box near the entrance of the security gates ( they check if you have ryanair boarding pass there) Luckily they didn't check anyone with backpack (they rarely fit into the 20cm thickness).

I vote it to be the best airline for backpackers :-)!
