Travel with Pets - Need help to transport a dog from PA to AL

I'm venturing into the mix here, to ask a favor...

I posted this in OMNI, but it was suggested that I post here too. I've heard from one FT'er who might be able to help with at least one leg, if not both, but it's never bad to have backups, right? :)

I'm helping to transport a dog from PA to AL. The dog was scheduled to be euthanized at an NYC shelter, and was adopted by someone in AL shortly before he was to be euthanized. She had transportation lined up for him twice, but both times it fell through. The dog is currently at a kennel in PA (first transport made it there), so I'm picking him up there tonight, and driving him as far as Fredericksburg, VA tomorrow morning. There are 2 other people taking legs in VA/NC, getting him as far as Greensboro, NC.

The "planned" legs after that still empty are:
1)Greensboro, NC - Charlotte, NC 1 hour 36 minutes 93 miles (pick up in Greensboro about 2:30 PM, arrival in Charlotte about 4 PM)
2)Charlotte, NC to Greenville, SC 1 hour 47 minutes 100 miles (Pick up in Charlotte about 4 PM, arrival in Greenville about 5:50 PM)

I know it's a long-shot, but I was hoping that perhaps someone here might be a dog lover who lives in NC or SC, and who might be willing to help get Koda to his furever home. The legs are tomorrow afternoon to Sunday. As a time reference, Koda will be in Fredericksburg by 9 AM tomorrow morning, so we're looking at him getting to Henderson by probably 1 PM or so.

All meetings are in public places, and there's no crate, just Koda, a collar, leash, and possibly bowls.

Koda is about a 50 pound German Shepherd mix who I'm told is sweet, but I'll know more tonight.

If you are willing and able to help, please email me or PM me and I'll pass along Koda's new owner's info.

While we're all doing this to get Koda home, the only thing I can offer is some karma, and if anyone can help get Koda home and can use them, I'll pony up a $50 UA voucher that expires in November, or some DL Sky Club passes or something. I'll send the voucher or passes with Koda, marked to go to whoever takes a leg, so no waiting on the mail!

LOL, I wondered where this post went. :) My Friday and Saturday were a little crazy, and Saturday evening, I was too exhausted to try to figure out where it went. :)

All legs of the trip were filled by the time I picked up Koda at the kennel on Friday.

I don't know the situation as far as what the kennel was charging and such, nor do I know why that kennel was selected. I just know that I wouldn't let my two near a kennel like that. They had Koda in the house, and he was so scared he was hiding under a table when I arrived. As such, I had to go into the house to convince him to venture out. The house reeked of urine. Our first stop was a nearby Petco, where I picked up a new leash and collar for Koda, since his leash reeked too, and the collar lacked a loop to attach a leash and/or licenses and such.

Koda was very scared, and threw up a few times in the car. I'd expected as much, and had the seat covered with a blanket. He seemed most comfortable when he could sit in the grass and honestly, seemed to enjoy the noise of cars and trucks. I'm guessing it was comfortable to him, having been a stray in NYC.

When we got home, I tried to give him a bath, because he had that shelter smell, but he wanted no parts of that. He had a fairly uneventful night at my house, with a few minor issues. Geno was a little jealous after a few minutes of sniffing (both are males, Geno neutered, Koda not neutered). Cobaka was determined to show Koda she was the alpha dog, and got a little too in his face at one point, causing him to growl, but I quickly pushed her away, and she learned that he needed some time alone. My two were extra clingy the rest of the weekend, and I'm guessing it's because they weren't sure why he was there and then not, but they're back to normal now.

He spent the night in our bathroom. I intended on giving him the spare bedroom, but he decided he was safe in the bathroom, so that's where he stayed. He did eat dinner that night, after I'd closed the door, and was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed on Saturday morning. :)

We had an uneventful drive to Fredericksburg, although the woman who met me there was over an hour late, so I had to rush back to MDT for my meeting.

I'm happy to report though that he's safely home, and is starting to adjust to his new home. He's apparently already Daddy's boy, but is trying to protect his Daddy from the four girls (pugs) that are his sisters.

I have no doubt that with some love and some time, he'll adjust well.

This was my first experience with transporting a dog to his furever home, and I'd definitely do it again, although I'd be very sure the person on the next leg knew exactly where we were meeting. :)
