I was a little bored and looking at the ANA website and noticed that the 747-400 is no longer showing under aircraft operated by ANA
My question is when did ANA retire the 747?

They are still flying 747s domestically, just not internationally.
Last international flights were earlier this year:

Why so many "?????????" ?
They probably realized that using older aircraft on those routes was a bad use of money, resources..

No bashing. If would rather have an airline that makes money and is able to fly more places with fuel efficient aircraft, as opposed to using all of their resources to fly to limited destinations with ancient gas guzzlers.
Don't get me wrong. I like the 744, but there are better aircraft out there..

The 74D is used in the domestic market on trunk routes such as FUK-HND, CTS-HND. The seat about 550 PAX :p......I believe they are slowly getting rid of them and using domestic 773 which hold about as many pax (510):p !

ANA is planning to hold onto their high density domestic 747-400 until at least 2013. JAL, which at one point was the largest 747 operator, has since gotten rid of all their 747-400s.

First and foremost the 747-400 is not ancient aircraft ok. Second it has its uses and there are not many better aircraft out there. It is not as ecnomical during these tough times.
Third this was just a point of information thread and question about when All Nippon Airways retired the 747-400 from INTL service. I had apparently missed that when that happened.
I prefer the Lufthansa strategy and order the new effcient 747-8

Give ANA a 24-hour hub airport and less competition, and I'm sure they would love to have 747-8s.

Your original post mentioned nothing specific to NH's international deployment of 744s. As mentioned above, they are still active and well-patronized on domestic Japanese routes. No need to roll your eyes and take an antagonistic tone.

Sorry for going OT, what's with KE?? Both A380s & B748s? I think LH is doing the same, too.

They see a need for both. I guess the reason a passenger varient f the new 747 is being launched is because of Lufthansa

ummm no this was simply to ask WHEN ANA RETIRED THE 747 because i had thought it was still in service. SO as far as i was concerned once someone answered that question in this then i was done.
Since i had my question answered. I no longer see the need for the thread to remain open but whatever.

No need to roll your eyes and I suggest you do a search instead of having an atitude when someone try to answer your question.

I drove underneath one of them about a month ago when I was driving on a highway going under Haneda airport, so I am sure they have them flying at least locally.
It's a shame they have retired international ones. I like that beastie. I'd much rather have them retire crappy and crampy 767's...

It is those 2 extra engines that a lot of airlines dislike these days
