Hi. I need your help. My brother is searching for a small flat in Santiago, Chile. He is a trainee for six month, so he just need something small with a low price. Just a bed with a table and a chair would be ok, but it should be in the las condes area. Can you give me any advice how to find something for him? He's living in a hotel now, so he could move in every day.

Las Condes and cheap usually don't go together. Try the university bulletin boards for leads on rooms for rent. Good luck.

This is something only he can realistically accomplish because he is physically there.
He needs to physically check out the university bulletin boards and follow-up on leads. Also, most supermarkets have public boards.
The only other option is to pay the premium for a service like Contact Chile:
http://www.contactchile.cl/en/housing-in-chile.php?housing_type=rooms
(I have no affiliation with them, just hear them mentioned often).
A reasonable room for rent might be found in Santiago Centro or points further west down Alameda, not in Las Condes. He will learn what less privileged Santiaguinos have to put up with each day on a crowded bus and Metro with possible commuting disruptions by the frequent protests to get to their job on the east side of town.
There is always a chance someone reading this board and living in Las Condes or Providencia might have a heart and message you but you can't count on that.

Eastbay1K knows Chile and Santiago well... perhaps you should PM him and send him a link to this thread....

Eastbay 1K actually messaged me earlier on me beating him to this thread.
I am surprised there are no other responses.
Of course, resident psuedos do not know the deal and can always use the help of non-pseudos :D

I have no contacts for Las Condes but I do have contacts with owners of rental properties in the Centro area, some of which are partially furnished.
Contact Chile is how I found my first place here, and it was excellent. There are difficulties at times to rent without a Chilean RUT, and they get you around that. The prices are high compared to Chilean rent, but low compared to US rent, so I felt like I was getting a deal until I struck out on my own to find a more permanent place.
Providencia, just between Las Condes and downtown, is a popular place for expats to rent and cheaper than Las Condes without being far away. It's a good option - usually just a metro ride away.
