Hilton HHonors - Extra Person Fee for Free Award Night

Is a $20 fee per night for an additional person (over 2) standard during an award stay? Even if it is standard, doesn't this defeat the purpose of a FREE stay? Furthermore, what is the business justification of this fee? It doesn't cost that much more for a third person to be in a hotel room.

There is a fee for the "extra bedding", cleaning services required - basically a way to make some extra $$. But in the last year, I've had this fee waived 3 out of the 4 times due to my Diamond Membership. Twice it was on a award stay, once it was on a paid stay and the only time it wasn't waived was again on a paid stay. However in big hotels, I've seen that they have a "Don't ask, Don't tell" policy. In the past when I've booked rooms via the telephone, there were times when I was not asked how many adults there were in my party and I was able to pull in a third adult w/o a problem.

It's the standard fee they charge for extra people at some hotels. I have been told that spouses are free if there are three people in the room, not really sure what they were trying to say.

It's a cleaning fee, extra towels, changing another set of sheets, etc.

It's quite an expensive cleaning fee. At HHV, the extra person fee is around $40/person/night.

Thanks for your posts. As most of you have agreed, the point is that is a ridiculously expensive cleaning fee. Where can I get into the business of throwing in an extra towel in the wash for $20 (or even $40)?

From my experiences, neither Starwood nor Hyatt hotels in the US charge this fee.

Here's an evidence to the contrary: Charged for extra guests on award stay at Westin Grand Vancouver (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum74/HTML/004013.html)

Quite the contrary. The Westin Excelsior in Rome will be charging me 89 euros per night for our son's rollaway. All the Starwoods in Europe appear to have equally stiff charges for just one child. Also the W Westwood is charging "only" $25 for an award stay rollaway. By contrast, neither HHV (award stay) nor Paris Hilton (paid stay)charged for the rollaway.

I remember reading that spouses stay free for HHonors members. Just claim one of them as your spouse. If it's same sex, tell them youre from Vermont or Uruguay.

I booked a room at the HWV for 2 people with 2 beds, now I may have a 3rd person come with me. Do I need to tell the hotel? If I book a room for 3 vs 2, it is $50 per night more - even on a free award night. why?

Please advise. Thanks

If one of the guests is your spouse, you should be able to include that person under "spouse stays free" (assuming there isn't a specific exclusion for the HWV or a general one for resorts) in which case you'd only need to book for two (a note in the comments section explaining your intention would be helpful). If there is no spouse you should indicate and pay for the actual number of guests.

I was originally planning on going with my Dad. But now my Mom may come too. I have the same name as my dad. Does any of this help?

Hotels want to make money; therefore, the $50 is a compromise to getting a second room, which in the case of the HWV would be much more.

So -- mom & dad are the first person and the spouse who stays free. You are the second person. Problem solved

Look at it as cheaper than reserving another room.

This is a much better solution than marrying your mom. :D

OK, probably...

The official rules state that it's the member's spouse that stays free. How do you feel about putting your arm around your Mom and saying with a straight face "I think I'll keep her"? ;)

I was just at HWV on an award stay and had 4 people in the room. We had listed 2 adults and 2 children on the reservation. We ended up comparing the 2 double bed rooms vs. king room for space. We decided that the king room would give us more room for 2 roll aways. The 2 children weren't there at check in and no one asked us questions about them. When we first arrived at our room we just called for the 2 roll aways. No extra charges were imposed. Have a great stay! Aloha

I recently made an award reservation for 3 adults via a phone call to the Diamond Desk. I was advised by the DD that there is a $30 charge / night for the extra guest. (6 nights GLOPN2 175,000pts award). I had not heard of the extra charge before nor had I read it on this site.

While I never saw any reference to this on Hilton's website, I did find under the Reward rules, that the award stays are for 2 people, so I guess in a way I should be lucky that they are honoring an award for 3 people in one room.

With that being said, I know many of you have stayed on an award stay with more than 2 people in the room. Where you charged for the extra person(s)? Most important, if the 3rd person was an adult? Did the 3rd person get the same privledges, such as breakfast coupons?

Thanks in advance.

Could this be the hotel's charge for a rollaway bed?

No. It is for a 2 queen beds, so no rollaway needed (or requested).
