This Volcano park looks to be a good sight-see for the 8-year-old grand-kid It's in north-east corner of New Mexioco, so sorta on our drive from OKC to Colo Springs...... anyone been there?
Park info seems to say you can drive right to top of volcano!
Thanks for any advice!

Drove by it a few times, but never directly to it. Assuming you take 40/87/25, it's right off the side of the road, and definitely not far out of the way. The fields in front of it were fairly interesting (though I already had an interest), but I'll be honest, on the way back to Denver (had driven back and forth from Lafayette, LA), I just didn't have a ton of interest even though I had the free time at that point to stop (15 hours in a car gets a bit ugly). It might be a nice stop on the way from COS back to OKC, since it's fairly early into the drive.
Been there. It's pretty cool, would go again. We did a picnic lunch there with t kids a few summers ago, as we were driving by. IIRC we hiked down into the volcano crater. Road goipes right up to the top of the rim.
Easy trip to do off the highway. Recommended!
