I received a phone call from Canadian AMEX offering 50,000 MR points to upgrade my Business Gold Rewards card to Platinum card, with required spending of $10k in 3 months. Regular annual fee of $399 applied (to be prorated for the first year based on my Business Gold card anniversary date). I understand from FT that this is not a good offer so I turned down the offer on the spot. However, the agent insisted to give me more time to think about it and will call back tomorrow. I'm wondering if anyone has received similar offer before and if it is reasonable to make a "counter offer" when the AMEX CSR calls back tomorrow. Appreciated any help/comment. Thanks.
