(I don't think the 739 is a replacement for the 767, maybe they can get some bargain-basement overweight 787s )

El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. (TASE: ELAL) today retired its oldest plane, a Boeing 767, which acquired 95,000 flight hours since entering service in 1984. The plane operated on El Al's routes to North America, Europe, South Africa, and the Far East. The plane was sold to another airline.
El Al is due to retire its remaining 767s and 757s soon. El Al currently operates 40 planes, 14 of them through leases.
El Al CEO Elazar Shkedi said, "As part of this policy, El Al decided to retire its older Boeing 757s and 767s, which have served it for many years. The airline will invest in the newest planes for its passengers. We recently bought four new 737-900s, which will soon join the fleet."

I hope they won't have a B737 flying TLV-YYZ let's hope they upgrade it to a B777).

Well, the 767 for all its faults is far better in business class than any 737 variant. I dread to think they might start using it more to London ...

Does LY have a surplus of 767s? Other than up-gauging a route to a 777, how are they going to fill in for a retired 767?

In fact, the oldest 762s they have just withdrawn were mostly used on European routes during the last years: indeed, they were not enough fuel-efficient for longer routes. So, I guess these 762s will be replaced on Euopean routes by 739ERs since these 762s were not used for their range but for their capacity.
On the longer routes like YYZ for example, the 762s they used were the "newer" 4X-EAE and 4X-EAF (built in 1991 and more fuel efficient). Otherwise, they use 763s.

Now, LY has 7 767s: 2 owned 762s (EAE and EAF), and 5 763s on lease (EAJ, EAK, EAL, EAR, EAP)

Oh ok. I wasn't aware that LY still had 762's in their fleet.

IF that's true...not good. I don't understand why LY doesn't just try to pick off some of the 787s that airlines around the world are cancelling lft and right.
