Germany - 3 Hour Layover in FRA, is it worth leaving and coming back to get passport stamps?

This is a silly question, but I have a trip this weekend coming back home from Paris, CDG-FRA-IAD where my layover at FRA is about 3 hours, 9:15am-12:20pm. I know it's probably not enough time to take the train to downtown and back, but I like collecting passport stamps and wonder if it's enough time for me to exit through immigration/customs to get a entrance stamp, only to enter again so I can get a departure stamp. Common sense says I probably shouldn't and just hang out at the lounge the whole time, but just wondering what are your thoughts. Also, if I did choose to do this, would immigration/customs officials be suspicious that I'm coming right back just for the purpose of collecting passport stamps? Also, I've been to Germany via FRA 3 times before, but this will be the first time for a layover and first time trying this.

France-Germany travel is within Schengen so the CDG-FRA flight is essentially domestic. You leave Schengen at FRA and hence that will be where you will get your exit stamp. Nothing leaving France.

If you need a reason to enter Germany for a short time, say you are visiting airport lost and found to collect something.

It is doable.

Or you want to buy something from the WorldShop (https://www.worldshop.eu/lws/page/page_shops_outlets/detail.jsf?lang=en), which I have done although I didn't get any stamps. ;)

Ooooh yeah, completely forgot about that. So basically I get an entry stamp at CDG when I travel there on Thursday, and departure stamp at FRA on Sunday.

Thanks for the info, good to know, although I guess the next time I book a flight and have a layover in FRA, I'll try to get one with a longer layover to check out the city.

Yes, you can take a train into town and come back. Train to town takes between 20-30 minutes one way.

I regularly fly between the US and Germany and haven't gotten ANY stamps from the Germans in a very long time... So be prepared - you may need to ask :)

I was temped to take the train to check out Römerberg, but was scared I'd miss my flight so I didn't go downtown. :(

Instead of going straight to the transfer area after I landed, I ended up exiting the airport, only to go right back in. Had to wait about 15 mins in line for security, was probably a 20-min wait for those who weren't in first/business/Star Alliance gold. There was even a "random inspection" where they had to swab my Bose headphones to make sure it was clean. Then I just ended up killing time by eating pancakes filled with chocolate in the Lufthansa lounge. In the end, as silly as it seems, it was all worth it to get my German departure stamp. :D

You can definitely take the train into town, spend an hour there and come back and have some time to enjoy one of the lounges. You'll get a departure stamp from FRA when you fly out.
