France - Affordable lodging for one night for family of four in a great location - suggestions

Hi All,

My family is looking for just one night in Paris June 2012 (a Sunday night) in a great location since we will have limited time (23 hours, an award travel "layover). Two adults and two children (11 & 13). I am having a hard time finding something in a good location, even with points, so we're considering going back to the airport (hotel, Starwood or Hilton on points) and only having the first afternoon (which could also be problematic).

Any suggestion, advise or other feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

For a family of 4, one of the best bets in France is Novotel (almost all Novotels take 2 kids in the parent's room in a sofa-bed). In many places kids get free breakfast. The most centrally located in Paris is Novotel Les Halles, albeit a bit more expensive than other locations in Paris. The advantage of Les Halles is that it's easy to/from CDG via direct RER train.

I'd suggest trying the Citadines. It's an apart-hotel and will have rooms that sleep 4. There are many locations, the best in the 6th near rue Daulphine and Pont Neuf.

I was going to make the same suggestion- although the Bastille location which is also a great location for seeing Paris and usually is quite reasonably priced.

Great suggestion, thank you both. The website only let's you search one property at a time and the least expensive one I could find was 262 euros.

Thank you for the suggestion. I could only find one for 250 Euros for one night at a decent location :(

That may not seem like much to everyone else, but that seems like an awful lot to me for just a place to crash for the night, we're going to be out seeing the sites as much as possible while we can.

I have a room reserved at the Le Meridien, but it's not in a good location and is 24k SPG for the suite that will accomodate alll 4 of us. I know Paris is expensive, but there's got to be a deal somewhere, right? :)

There are many nice choices with reasonable rates (less than 250 euros per quadruple) if you're willing to look outside of chain hotels. Paris is famous for its independent little boutique hotels and there are many of them. Here are a couple reasonably priced, fairly centrally located hotels which I know. I checked the rates, they seem to be way cheaper (of course your exact dates will determine the price, these "from" prices can be deceptive a bit.)
Hotel Taylor at the Republique, quad from 162 €: http://paris-hotel-taylor.com/
Hotel Choiseul at the Opera, quad from 174 €: http://hotelchoiseuloperaparis.com/
These are nice mid-range 3-star hotels, and there are many other similar options for sure.

Thank you Zoe67

Unfortunately, for two adults and two kids, the rates for one night in June were:
Hotel Taylor at the Republique, quad 252 €:
Hotel Choiseul at the Opera, quad 290 €:

I need to somehow find a more affordable option... we're just going to crash there one night. I wish I had friends there, I'd love to pay them instead of a hotel :)

I've looked at points redemptions and the only thing I could find was 24k SPG for a suite at Le Méridien Etoile, but it's not the best location for easy access and that's a lot of SPG points to blow for one night, or so it seems.

Thanks for the advice.

b8b, what do you consider a great/good location and easy access?

Having a better idea of what you're looking for might help bring out some other suggestions. A specific date might help as well, if you're willing to share that.

Great question, thank you for asking. Since I don't know Paris that well, I don't know exactly how to answer. Here's the agenda:

We arrive at CDG on June 10 at 2:07 PM and leave CDG 1:25 PM the next day. I just want to show my boys (11 & 13) as many of the best sites as comfortably possible, particularly the Eiffel tower because it is iconic. So I was thinking it is best to stay somewhere between there and the center (http://g.co/maps/vrydj) of Paris so we could also walk around at night and not be far from a place to crash.

However, if the metro is easy and runs late, we could stay further off as we will only be sleeping in the hotel and can carry around our stuff as necessary (this is a "layover" so our main luggage will be checked through). It would seem that we couldn't really see much in the morning, but I thought we could try or at least walk around bit, but I would want to get to the airport in plenty of time just in case (not sure if you can take a metro straight there or need to change somewhere).

Thanks for your willingness to help!

Do you have any priority club points (or able to get any - maybe from a Chase Sapphire Preferred card)? If you don't mind getting two rooms (and it is only 1 night :) ), then I would look at Holiday Inn PARIS OPERA - GRANDS BLVDS. Perfect location and the Metro is right outside the hotel door.

The Cash and Points rate is 5,000 + $60 per night per room. So looking at that date you would need 10,000 pts plus $120. You'll have to figure out whether that is better than the other options.

Thanks.

Excellent suggestion!! I don't have any Chase Saphire points left (I think I just transferred some too, DOH!) and I'm also PC Platinum, so that might work out perfect for a potential upgrade or something. I wonder what the typical ratio of PC to SPG is, maybe I can find something over in the CC forum.

Thanks, PWMFlyer19!

If you're willing to prepay, the Crowne Plaza Paris Republique (decent location in the 3rd) can be had for 180 euros for a quad (2 double beds) on Sundays next June through the IHG Friends & Family link available in the "Hotel Deals" forum.
