ANA launches first long-haul service to Europe on 787 Dreamliner
Flights Begin on Haneda- Frankfurt route from January 21, 2012


ANA will commence the first long-haul international route to Europe using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner on 21 January, 2012 when it begins its Haneda to Frankfurt service.

The new route will complement ANA’s four existing European services from Narita to Frankfurt, Munich, London and Paris and will offer business and leisure passengers unrivalled levels of comfort and service thanks to the Dreamliner’s innovative technology and composite structure.

I wonder which flight will be the most "celebrated" on board and on the ground.

Will it be the HND-FRA or the flight from Frankfurt to Haneda?

There will not be any lottery or auction for this - I am sure it will be a very popular flight - so I better get me a seat before they all go.

This is great news for connection passengers to Africa. It now allow people to take morning Africa flights through BRU and ZRH. It is amazing that you can go to many African countries from Japan on the same day (thanks to time difference and very early departure from HND).

6 hours is a LONG turn...

There was a thread on A.net Civil Aviation forum saying the ANA 787 suffered an engine explosion on take-off at HND.

The thread got scrubbed by the mods but it still shows on Google.

I checked ANA tool to see if NH will make this flight available for redemption in April, but it does not show... :( It seems like the first JAL flight to BOSTON is bookable with AA miles though...).

Must be some airbus fanatic trying to derail this great aircraft. I had chance to take look inside and it is fantastic!

The fare hasn't been loaded into the system yet, likely because it goes on sale from October 13 (until then it's considered to be "awaiting government approval").

I would prefer to fly on the original aircraft, the true "First to Fly the ANA 787 Dreamliner".

I was also tempted and found C and Y availability on the inaugural flight when I checked on 13th. But the price ex-UK is considerably higher than what I normally pay on LH or LX to NRT. I might try redeeming BD miles for a C award later in the year.

The HND-FRA flight is not the first flight.

The first flight is the package flight HND-HKG-HND of 26 and 27 october where passengers were selected by lottery accessible to Japan residents only -- not counting the numerous ANA guests -- the press and the 6 business seats sold on Yahoo Japan (3) and ebay (3) auctions, reaching astronomical prices.

Those passengers will be the ones getting the gifts and the honours of being first to fly the ANA 787 Dreamliner.

I do not think the HND-FRA flight will get anything special if not for a water cannon salute on landing at FRA with maybe a special welcome at the gate as a first flight of a new aircraft type to Europe.

Other than that I don't think there will be anything else. It will be a true first long haul for the plane but not a first commercial flight.

It came as a surprise that a WSJ reporter contacted me as I am not going to be on the 787 inaugural flight to HKG.

Still planty of time before the flight - about another two months.

Looking at the ANA Skyweb the flight is a good half full already in both cabins. Business Class seats seems to be selling faster. There is not one window seat left on the whole aircraft.

I had to rush and book the first day the flight got listed so I could get my choice of seat. I will be able to move around the cabin to other windows for pictures... I hope.

Any news of the Beijing line?

I was so pleased to find C inventory on the HND to FRA routing for Feb 2012. One night in FRA at the Westin then the turn back to HND. Those taxes are a killer but not to fly this bird.
