Thanks to Microwave and his post on the American AAdvantage Forum in reply to a member's question, it is possible to upgrade seats on American Airlines and British Airways using Iberia Plus points.
The procedure is explained here (http://www.iberia.com/iberiaplus/news), and has some serious restrictions, but it can presumably be done. In part:
This upgrade product is complementary to the one Iberia Plus offers its customers on flights operated and marketed by Iberia per flight zone.
CONDITIONS:
- Available for reservations directly with Iberia through web or call center. Customers can apply for it via their Iberia Plus Customer Service Centre.
- Only applicable to certain full rates (Tourist: Y, B - World Traveller Plus: W - Business: J, D and only for class C British Airways flights.
- Valid for code share
- It is not possible to request more than one upgrade per passenger and must always be the next class up
- Not available on compensation tickets
- Remaining cabin upgrade conditions
Anyone who has experience or success, please share your experience with us. ¡Gracias!
