I'm travelling YVR-YXS-YVR next week on WS and bringing my acoustic guitar (in a hard case) along.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in travelling with a guitar with Westjet? Do they allow you to gate-check it? Take it on-board? Check it in with the checked bags upon checking-in?

Any tips would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Only bad experience I've ever had dealing with WestJet was back in 1999.
My daughter bought an electric guitar in Victoria & brought it back to Edmonton they broke it. We went to the customer service desk to find out what they were going to do about it & were told there was nothing they could or would do since she had signed some kind of waiver. I've checked fragile stuff since then & have never signed any kind of waiver so I don't remember if it was an actual waiver(maybe they've changed the waiver policy)or something in the T&C's.
Anyways, when I pointed out that my daughter was only 14 years old & couldn't possibly sign a binding legal document they changed their tune & said they would take all the info & get back to us. They ended up paying for it($225)since she had just bought it & had the receipt but, if I hadn't been there & knew the law she would not have been compensated.
Other than this WestJet have been great to deal with even when my luggage got misdirected & the time I was able to get the gate attendant to waive an over baggage fee when I brought 4 cases of wine back from Hamilton. Transporting the wine across provincial boundries is actually technically against the law but they've done this twice for me so I love them.
