On Saturday, November 5, Hawaiian Airlines will move its entire operation from Terminal 1 to the International Terminal. Please note that Hawaiian Airlines’ flights currently depart from Terminal 1, Boarding Area C, and arrive at the International Terminal, Boarding Area A.

Thanks for the heads up. This move looks to be possibly due to the A330. The 5th new A330 is supposed to be delivered around that time and I know the aircraft made it's first flight in Toulouse around 9/2. HA's reservation site shows a switch from the 767 to A330 starting on 11/6. I thought HA's current location could handle the A330 at SFO? Regardless, I welcome the move. SFO's intl. terminal is fabulous.

Does this mean they currently tug the plane between terminals for deploying and boarding?

This makes sense since, as everyone knows, Hawai`i is an international destination from the USA.

Why do so many flight attendants of various airlines refer to HNL as "international"? Is it because the flight is over water?

Probably. And because HNL is part of the State of HI that is out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and not part of the "Mainland". :D

While the over water component and generally exotic nature of Hawaii as a destination may make it seem international, I have been told by FAs that the long haul work rules and bidding process are comparable to international for them. This makes sense, at least on non-stop flights to Hawaii from east of the Mississippi, which can be longer than flights from the Northeast to Europe.

Also on what has been said above, most (well over 90%) of the flight occurs over international waters. US territorial waters do not extend entirely from the west coast to Hawaii.

I knew at least prior to the merger, CO's rules on the IAH/EWR long hauls to HNL were international. So there'd be international FAs/flight crew. Can't remember if NW was the same.

No, it's not an international flight but, it's actually is an Domestic flight. They shouldn't moved a different terminals. HA is still belongs at entire T1.

I don't mind the move to the International Terminal. Right now, HA's visibility at T1 seems to be a token gesture, where they are subsumed by DL. At least HA might be able to be a little more visible as their brand at the International Terminal. Secondly, I always hope that HA and VS, as partners, would be able to provide interline connections at the International Terminal. Unfortunately, the two carriers' schedules do not align yet.

T1 @ SFO is still a dump, at least until they refurbish it, which is planned, but probably still several years off, as I'm sure they will do it one pier at a time.

Moving to the International terminal @ SFO is a good move for Hawaiian. It's a much nicer terminal and passenger experience, and the flights were already arriving at the international terminal anyway.

Several "domestic" airlines were using or continue to use the international terminal. Virgin America (now in the new T2), JetBlue and now Air Canada (most Canada flights leave from the domestic terminal @ SFO).

Anyone know what lounge (if any) they'll utilize for F pax?

When they were in the domestic terminal, they used the Delta Sky Club Lounge which opened at 5am. Now that they are in the international terminal, they no longer have a lounge available for F passengers. The Delta Lounge in the International Terminal opens at 8:30am and boarding for HA's flight is well underway by that time. (This is what I was told was the reason for no lounge by a HA Agent in SFO last month).

I hope they change that soon.

I hope they change that soon.

Came back from SFO on Monday. The agent said they are in negotiations to use another airline's lounge in the A Concourse. They hope to have something in place in the next month or so.

Flew out of SFO last week Sunday. Still no lounge. Agent said they were still in negotiations. "Maybe in next couple of weeks" they said.. Not flying again until June. Hopefully they get one by then.

SFO Int'l terminal is right sized for HA's ops. From the capacity of the waiting areas, baggage claim, variety of in-terminal dining and access to BART and the relative newness, it is a welcome change.

Federal Aviation Regulations treat flying in the lower 48 as domestic. Inter-island and Hawaii-Mainland come under Flag, or International flying regulations.
