Hello.

I'd like to know which between LanPass and IberiaPlus best fits frequent flyers between Europe and South America (mostly Chile).

- easiness to add miles
- easiness to gain status

I might say that, according their websites, lanpass miles don't expire as long as you make use of them once in 36 months. IberiaPlus' miles expire after 4 years.

If there are frequent flyers doing this kind of route, what's your choice?

Thank you!! :)

Iberia Plus has always been a bit too confusing for a thicky like me.

One thing that you need to take into consideration though is that unless you are flying full fare Y or above, IB will not give you 100% credit. LAN does give you 100% credit for all transatlantic flights even deep discount economy.

You will be able to get reasonable deals on IB flights with LA flight numbers which will accumulate 100% credit.

If you are registered in Europe, 2 returns from FRA or MAD to SCL will get you Premium status (OW Ruby) and 4 returns will get you Premium Silver (OW Sapphire)

I am not an expert on S.A.
But, IMHO, some people will recommend American Airline program.
AA earns 100% miles & EQP on LA's YBHKLMV classes.
AA earns 100% miles on BA's YBHKLMV.
Unfortunately, AA earns only 30% on IB's BHKLMQVWZA.

But you can earn AA's elite bonus miles on BA/LA/IB.

If I were you, probably, I choose AA.
Why do you eliminate AA program and think of LA and IB ?

I wouldn't choose AA but that is because of my personal circumstances. I am European and live in South America, AA's redemption values are not cool in those regions. For example BOG LIM my most redeemed route costs me 28,000 LANpass kms which is about 19,000 miles. Redeeming that same trip with AA is 30,000 miles. In Europe LANpass would be 12,000kms from LHR to CDG with BA, that's 8,000 miles. AA would charge me 20,000 miles.

Obviously with non AA OW status you can use Admirals Club lounges which I take advantage of in the USA but wouldn't be able to if I were an AA plat.

Thank you to both of you.

I didn't consider AA because you need to fly at least 4 times with them to gain status.

It seems easier to gain milles with LAN, as long as you don't fly with iberia between Europe and South America (you get fewer miles).

....AA have not been enforcing that condition.

I know an EXP who has not set foot in an AA aircraft or travelled on an AA flight number for several years.

That's good to know!
Thank you very much. ^
