SkyTeam - China Airlines joins SkyTeam, considers axing first class

IN BRIEF: Taipei-based China Airlines today became the 15th member of the SkyTeam alliance, following recent recruit China Eastern in expanding SkyTeam's footprint in the Asia-Pacific region (alongside China Eastern, China Southern, Delta, Korean Air and Vietnam Airlines).

Travellers on China Airlines, which currently flies from Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland into Taiwan, will now be able to trade their Dynasty Flyer points into those of fellow SkyTeam airlines, and vice versa.

Aerolineas Argentinas and Garuda Indonesia, both of which also operate in Australia, are slated to join SkyTeam next year.

Other changes are afoot at China Airlines. According to a report in Asia-Pacific Business Traveller, the airline will adopt fully-flat beds in business class within the next two years – a welcome upgrade from the current 160 degree angled lie-flats. At the same time, first class may be ditched as the airline focuses more on corporate travellers.

KL has already mentioned they will go for full-flat seats but no announcement has been made. (And they axed first class years ago.)

AF has also publicly said that they will introduce a BRAND NEW seat in J in 2013. Also, rumours say that they might introduce a new P class seat.

The current P Class seat will receive an upgrade with the back partition becoming higher, just a couple of cosmetic changes while they look for their new P seat.

These folks from ausbt are supposed to know their stuff. Why would they then write such a sentence?

Thanks, I am aware about KL axing first class. If the full flat seat is at an angle like the one below, then I am aware of that already and view that this new business class is horrible! If it is one newer than the one shown below then Yippie!

Frankly I don't know how they justify spending that much euros to upgrade their business class to a slanted flat seat and think they can charge what most Asian carriers charge for a J ticket which are mostly flat beds.

Even AZ, and now DL also, have begun to offer a flat bed, these days.

Nope, I am talking about a brand new seat, this was an evolution of the seat. They are going to come up with a totally new J seat in 2013.
