Hawaii - Hapuna Prince Groupon

This came up in a search tonight. $1409 for 7 nights in an Oceanfront Suite at the Hapuna Prince Resort on the Big Island. We have only stayed at Kona Village so this is a big change for us. It looks like comparing apples to pineapples but I think this will be a nice alternative to the quiet Hawaiian resort we are used to. I have read some mixed reviews on the place but most of the negatives (out of the way/too quiet) are actually positives for us!

Any others thoughts on the resort? Seems like an incredible deal. Heres the link

We're approaching peak season - it will be hard to find space from Thanksgiving through early Jan, limiting the voucher's usefulness.

We're staying at the Mauna Lani in lieu of our usual KVR next month. I seriously considered switching to the HBP Groupon suite deal, but the hotel offers none of the interesting lava/petroglyphs/snorkeling/grounds, etc that we are used to at KV. Never mind the service is supposedly lacking. HB can be rough in November as well so we are sticking with the ML. It's going to be enough of a shock as it is not to be at KV! The ML is also a lot closer to dining, another thing we need to get used to!

It's definitely going to be a cultural shock to switch from KVR to anywhere. We went ahead and booked the Groupon (7 night Suite deal) knowing that it won't compare to KVR in any way and even understanding that it's a notch below the ML, MK, & Orchid. One thing we do know is that it will be better than the cold weather in Wash DC in January!!

We loved KVR so much we rarely left the campus during our visits. We are actually looking forward to re-discovering the Island. We also plan on seeing some of our old KVR friends who are now at various restaurants and hotels around the Kona area.

Grounds are nice at Hapuna Prince Hotel.. although, a renovation of the hotel I think is needed..

But sounds like a pretty good deal, if you can get the travel in before expiry..
