DiningBuzz! - Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee

I bought some of this a few years back at Fortnum and Mason's just wanting to try it because of the hype, and fully expecting it to be a one-off purchase. However, I have to admit, that we were highly surprised at how good it really is, and have purchased regularly since, (particularly the Flamstead Estate which FM no longer sells; not so much the Clifton Estate).

Anybody else addicted to this? Any other estates to recommend?

I'm no coffee connoisseur, but I do enjoy the blend. I can't remember the brand I bought as it was a number of years ago. I only drink coffee once a week.

Jamaican Blue Mountain and Kopi Luwak are my two pleasures. It is not my usual daily grind.

My retirement fund is still very mad at the people who introduce them to me.

It's been a few years, but I used to buy Wallenford and Jablum regularly, IIRC. Always go with whole bean, unblended. Years back I had a relative who was in Jamaica at the time and would send me private reserves that his friends produced. Some really good stuff coming out of that region.

I was visiting a coffee plantation and the Kona coffee Co-op. I found out that to get the name Kona onto your label you can be blended as low as 10% Kona grown beans as long as it is stated as 10% Kona blended.

Two pleasure I do not like blended: premium coffee and scotch.

Yes, that's why you want to be sure to look for 100% Kona coffee, or a similar label.

:D I was warned about the Kona-blend issue before a trip to Hawaii, and have passed that along to others who are headed there.

Yes, that too. too many banquet, convention and meeting coffee are from these "liquid concentrate".

However Scotch concentrate in form of deglazing the pan after a nice steak is acceptable. ;)

I was sharing that with others at the HNL Costco. The French Roast 100% Kona was three time the blended Kona beside it.

Costco is the only place locally I can find Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee ... sold there as whole beans I always buy a couple bags at a time. We love the stuff, and have since we lived in Jamaica 35 years ago. The coffee is what we really miss most about the place.

BTW - The lowest price 100% Kona coffee was at Costco in HNL. It is also the best place for value in wine when you need a bottle in US.

That assumes that you can buy wine at Costco... Remember, some states are still in the stone age, and will not permit wine sales anywhere other than state-owned stores.

Thanks for the reminder. It is not even a state by state but county/district/etc.
I should know better being a Canadian Costco member. The Costco alcohol are kept in the pharmacy section.

My brother is visiting the mouse and he can't find any at Costco around WDW.

I actually do know a couple who got their rings at Costco. Apparently it was a pretty good deal.

Costco has very good price on rings but selection is limited. I know a few guys who bought engagement rings at Costco with me (Exec member, just there for the 2%).
