Any experiences or thoughts on them? Service levels, fares, cabin comfort?
Other North & South America Frequent Flyer Programs - VOLARIS?View Full Version : VOLARIS? volvo99 Sep 27, 11, 11:06 am Any experiences or thoughts on them? Service levels, fares, cabin comfort? rajuabju Sep 27, 11, 4:04 pm Never flown them personally, but my in-laws fly them with some regularity from LAX to various destinations in Mexico. Considering they are the "WN of Mexico", they've been generally pleased with service. Had one flight cancellation about a year ago, and Volaris handled the situation to their satisfaction. TPJ Oct 1, 11, 8:28 am As a MX orphant, I flew with them a few times and I think they are quite OK (as for the LCC). My flights have never been 100% full, so normally I had 2 seats for myself. Interestingly enough, they use SABRE system and not Navitaire (normally used by most LCCs), so can offer decent online check-in, seat assignment at check-in, cheap excess baggage - if booked in advance, cheap advance seat assignment... They are much better than Interjet and with more and more flight operating out of Benito Juares (MEX - they used to be based at Toluca Airport) - looks like Volaris can be a real alternative for AM and Interjet... LADELTA777 Oct 5, 11, 10:24 pm They are way better the South West for sure, I never flown them, but co workers have, and I been told that they are great. paddyboyfoley Oct 6, 11, 8:29 am I live in San Diego and have used Volaris 3 times (Cancun, Mazatlan and PV). The most I have been late is one hour due to heavy fog at TIJ. Their aircraft are much cleaner and comfortable than Southwest and you can chose your own seats for about $3. Drinks and snacks are complimentary. The staff are excellent, kind and attentive. Make sure you give plenty of time for checkin at the TIJ airport - it is a madhouse when all the morning flights are leaving. We usually stay at the Marriott in TJ where they will cut a deal on parking and takes any border delays out of the equation. Their is an open lot at TIJ airport which is much cheaper than parking in the parking structure - but be prepared for your vehicle to need a bath when you get back. Sign up as a member and take advantage of their promotions. You can save a fortune over US fares because of the elimination of US taxes. Volaris are sticky about being over your baggage allowance - weigh you bags before you go the airport or you might be in for a nasty surprise. Fit as much carry on as you possibly can into a backpack or the likes and all will be good. I have two more future trips already booked with Volaris - love that 50% discount. volvo99 Oct 17, 11, 6:03 pm I live in San Diego and have used Volaris 3 times (Cancun, Mazatlan and PV). Thanks Paddyboy; I am a SAN based flier as well. I wouldn't mind flying flying out of TIJ; however the wife has a phobia of long lines at the San Ysidro land crossing; the new TIJ-Brown Field bridge couldn't come soon enough. I'm particulary impressed by the scale of their TIJ operation, with NS service to Oaxaca, Toluca, and Puebla specifically. paddyboyfoley Oct 19, 11, 6:56 am If you get a five year Sentri Pass it is unlikely you will ever have to wait more than 15 minutes at the border. Otay is usually less than 5 minutes. Having been prequalified with the GOES system will also allow you to travel back into major US ports of entry with minimal delay. |
