there is a chance of relocation to Ann Arbor to take a university job. Its too soon to tell, but I need to start doing research incase I get called to the last round of interviews.

Anything you can share will be appreciated. I've researched cost of living and it seems very close to where I currently live. Home market seems soft, but it is where I will be moving from as well, so that will likely be a wash.

Good culture? Things to do outside of UofM activities? Schools?

Seems like most of the people I talked to have been there for a very long time and really like it, but I talked to very few people.

Thanks for any insight.

It's cold in winter and filled with delusion football fans forever convinced that this will be Michigan's year.

It's also a decent place to live - my best friend from high school lived there for several years doing an MD/PhD and I visited him several times - and has a really nice college town vibe to it. Borders Books was founded there, though it closed recently. Lots of nice restaurants, boutiques, etc. In a lot of ways, it stuck me as an upscale suburb without the nearby big city. And it's maybe 30 minutes from DTW airport, if that matters to you.

Best source for that type of info. is a printed publication called the Ann Arbor Observer

Also, we usually do a FT DO during the Art Fair in July, watch community buzz to see if they'll be one in 2012.

One bit of advice -- on certain Sat. afternoons, the city can get very crowded, particularly near the Big House.
