Italy - Venice: Airport to Hotel Excelsior Lido
Dear Venice specialists!
I'll be staying at the Lido (Hotel Excelsior) for this year's art biennial visit. I tried to find out the best way to get from the airport to the hotel. Arrival will be around noon on Wednesday, if that is important.
It seems like I could take the Alilaguna to S.Zaccaria and take the hotel shuttle from there. This would certainly entail minimum walking.
Or I could take the Alilaguna to the Lido. But I wasn't able to ascertain how far the ACTV stop is from the hotel; only got conflicting info.
Of course, I could simply ask in situ but somehow I trust you guys more than the tourist folks in Venice. ;)
Thanks for your help!!!

The Excelsior is quite a distance from the stop where the Alilaguna drops you off on the Lido.
If you have decided on Alilaguna service, then I would probably opt for taking then line directly to the Lido, and then taking a land taxi to the property. However, if upon arrival at the airport, the S. Zaccaria line is leaving shortly and you would have to a while for the Lido line, then going to SZ and catching hotel launch would be a reasonable alternative as well.

do the hotels still run the launch in summer from vce to various hotels in the spg chain? the cost was about a third a taxi, but was per person.
Thanks, Maria. That sounds like a good idea. I hadn't really considered a land taxi (car) but you're right, that's possible on the Lido. :)
I do know that the shuttle from the Excelsior to the Danieli still runs. But don't know for direct shuttles from the airport. I will inquire on that upon arrival at the airport.

I don't believe an airport to Excelsior direct launch will be an option. Rather I believe the option you will be offered is a prereserved water taxi, at a cost in excess of 100EU. Still it is worth contacting the hotel directly now and asking about it. Also, when you contact them, double check that the Danieli-Lido launch still runs at this time of year. The "season" for the Lido pretty much ends with the close of the film festival - which concluded on 10 Sept.

there never was a "direct" launch to my knowledge. the launch picked up at all 6 hotels, as needed, and then progressed to the airport.
Just a follow up with some more tips on the airport-Excelsior transport.
I ended up taking the blue line to Lido SME (the main station at Lido) and taking a car taxi from there at a fixed rate of 10 Euro. It was an OK method and the fastest with the wait we had for boats at the airport.
If there is no taxi at SME (Santa Maria Elisabetta) you can take the bus line V. It costs 1.30 Euro and takes you to the Excelsior.
However, unless you have tons of luggage the easiest way to do it is to take the Linea Rossa (Red line) It only has 4 or 5 stops and it takes you directly from the airport to Lido Casino. The Casino stop is behind the Casino on a little canal. It is only about 350m away from the Excelsior.
That's what we did on the way back. The Linea Rossa from Casino to the Airport only leaves once an hour (on the 20 minute) and it takes just under an hour to get to the airport. Price is the same as for all other ACTV to the airport.
There is no actual scheduled Excelsior service to the airport. They pick up or take you there by water taxi as needed and you need to arrange that with the hotel in advance. The cost for a water taxi is 120 Euro (one way). The price can be shared by four people. If there is an additional person, each addtl. person pays 10 E. So six people could share 140 Euro fare. That's what I was told the day I left.
A round-trip ticket Airport-Venice and back costs 25 Euro when bought at the airport ticket office. It is valid on all lines.
As for the shuttle service. The summer schedule with boats on the half hour was in effect until Oct. 3 this year. Then they changed to a boat every hour. It left the hotel on the 30 minute, arrived at Europe/Regina hotel on the 50 minute. Then it would take off to the Danieli stop where it left for the Excelsior on the 00 minute. It would arrive at the Excelsior on the 15 minute.
Depending on traffic and capitano the distance from Danieli to Excelsior would take 12-22 minutes to cover. I timed it several times.
It was a wonderful vacation and I even got to swim in the sea. Warmer than the pool. :)
Cheers and thanks,
