Yesterday, I posted in this thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum57/HTML/004269.html
that I had made the personal decision to not try the AAGU upgrade to Gold since I was not sure it was ethical.
Today, my Inbox had the following message:
"Subject: Hilton Gold, you've earned it
"Upgrade to Hilton Gold by calling their customer
service number (800.548.8690) and asking for code AAGU to be added
to your account."
The e-mail address of the sender does not appear to be the address of a registered flyertalk member. Has anyone else gotten this message?
Even though I chose not to take advantage of the AAGU upgrade, I still would like to be Hhonors Gold (I am Silver now), and I would like it to mean something when I get there. I think it is okay for those of us who belong to flyertalk to trade Codes and things amongst ourselves (after all, I might learn about some promotion that I am entitled to participate in) but I don't want someone bulk e-mailing out promotion codes, because that would be killing the goose that lays the GOLDen eggs! And if I was the only one who received this e-mail, then what was the person's intentions? I made it clear in my post yesterday in the thread that I cited above that I already knew I COULD upgrade with the AAGU code and HAD ALREADY decided not to.
Hilton might upgrade me this time with AAGU if I asked, but if I didn't make the stays required for requalification, that might result in my not being selected next time for some even better targetted e-mailing. In other words, "what goes around comes around." I think whoever made this post is only going to generate bad karma for him/herself.
