Customs and Border Protection officers have announced they will walk off the job next week over a dispute to do with enterprise agreements.

Customs says it has been advised by the Community and Public Sector Union that its members will stage industrial action starting on Tuesday.

The action will include one and two hour stoppages.

International airports throughout the country will be affected on Tuesday and Sydney airport will be affected on Thursday and Saturday.

Passengers are being warned to expect delays in processing because only a small amount of staff will be available during the strikes.

Roxanne Kelly from Customs says the main goal during the strikes is to keep Australia's borders safe and process passengers as quickly as possible.

"We're not sure of the definite numbers of workers that will be taking action," she said.

"But we have contingency plans in place and we'll be ensuring the border will be protected, but in doing this we expect there will be some delays."
