Can anyone tell me how good or bad these two properties are and if they are close to the main tourist stops?

I will be staying at both of these using points. If you know of a better property and better use of points, please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Edit to add: I will have my two kids and wife with me so small regular rooms will not work.

Regarding the NYC property. I stayed there recently and thought it would be fine for a family of 4. There are two rooms. The living room had a sofabed.

The bathroom had a door to each of the bedroom and the living room. There's a small microwave and a small refrigerator. Two TVs. The rooms are quiet. High speed internet is available for $10/day, though, in the room I was in, there was no RJ45 cable. Very good security. Breakfast just average.

The hotel is near the subway stop at 49th St and 7th Ave. See this link for the subway map. http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/nyct/maps/submap.htm

You're in the Times Square area, which is a tourist spot itself. The proximity to the subway makes it close to tourist destinations.

Several blocks away, on 42nd St, is the Hilton Times Square, which is a somewhat nicer property, but the rooms are noisier and there's no separate room to park the kids. In your case, I'd stay at the Doubletree.

There are lots of threads on these properties available through search that may have better information than mine, but my experience was very recent, so I thought I'd pass it on.

If it is the Doubletree Suites that is down the street from the Watergate Complex, I would beware. I took my family there last summer on an award stay. Unless you really like to walk, you will need to take the subway. The subway, however is a great way to get around.

What I would beware of is the poor service and the lazy staff we experienced. I had trouble getting a computer connection the Saturday we arrived. I was told again and again nothing was wrong. Monday, another manager told me that they had rain on that Saturday and it fried the lines. The pool wasn't open when they said it would be. So I called downstairs to ask about it. When the man arrived to open it, the pool hadn't been cleaned and I got a dose of attitude when I asked why. My kids went swimming later but were disappointed nonetheless.

My recommendation...avoid it if you can.
