How much detail do you want?
Are you already booked to go?

Here are some quick answers...

Hilton is the best on the island. There are two parts to the hotel. The standard rooms and the timeshare suites. I got upgraded to the timeshare side into the "presidential suite." It was the best room i've ever stayed in. Two decks, jucuzzi outside on the 13th floor overlooking the ocean. 5 stars all the way. Full kitchen, ect...

Margarita island is not much to see. LOTS of better islands in the carib. The beach at the hotel must be the worst on the island. Do not waste you time at the beach at the hotel. We found two great beachs on the hotel side of the island about 20min away.

The pools at the hotel are awesome. We went with our children and it is perfect for kids. 3 water slides, huge lazy river and fountains.

We then took a day trip into the Amazon region by plane and boat to see VZ nation park. We flew by angel falls and it is a definite must!

If you have more spceific questions please let me know. I'd love to help.

Sweet Willie,

I'd be interested in which place you choose.

Do you mean which Caribbean Island or which property on Margarita?

You pick.

Are you going to go to Margarita? Or somewhere else?

NO, does not seem like enough variety for us.

Of the islands I've been to in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico is the best IMO. The reason I state this is I want both relaxed small town, off-the-beaten path beaches/areas, but a week at the slow pace is too much for me and my wife (so we need an island that has a great, exciting nightlife. A great amount to do outdoors is a plus. I also seek the local culture. Puerto Rico meets all four needs:

It is easy to experience/take in the local culture in PR, you may not understand what they are saying, but it is easy to find places where the locals hang out and you are accepted. Again, not so easy to do on other islands, very rarely do you find locals spots.

Besides the great amount of beaches, PR also has a rainforest and the center of the island is a lush forest. Great for hiking/exploring.

San Juan is a GREAT food city and has exciting nightlife.

The slower side of PR is just outside San Juan and all over the island, just drive out.
Fajardo and Ricon are very "slow" areas as are Guanica on the SW side of the island.

I almost forgot to mention, no customs to go through and PR uses the US $.

Thank you for bumping this thread up. I have booked into the Hilton Margarita for 6 nights on a GLON award. Glad to hear the hotel is fine.

Is there a hotel shuttle or how do you get there? Is there much to see in Porlamar?
Is the Island safe to walk around (day-time and for a person with normal common sense.)

Cheers, Dave - London,UK

Davistev, did you know about the Hilton Margarita through Hilton communication or through some form of advertisment for the island? I'm curious as I have never seen/heard any info on the island.

Davestev,

I got transfers through a local company called Walter's tours.

I had read about him on the web and booked a day trip into the rainforest to Canimania national park.

He also provided pickups for fairly cheap money to and from the airport.

His web site is http://www.margaritaislandguide.com/index.htm

I would HIGHLY recommend going into the rain forest for a day trip!!!!!

The Hilton is about 25 minutes from the city/town of Porlamar.

Please post any more questions you have.

P.S.

I think I have digital pictures of the room. I would be happy to post them or put a link to them......If someone could tell me how. :-(
