I just wanted to comment on a recent long weekend stay 9/10-9/13/11. The hotel is the most like a resort of any property I have visited in San Salvador. I was truly impressed with the great layout of the property, which seemed a little less than just a business hotel, then let's say the Sheraton Presidente: where Hillary Clinton and all the diplomats stay.
As a platinum (with the $89 weekend rate) I was given a great room overlooking the main green covered volcano on the 7th executive floor. Included on the weekend was two drinks at the bar per night and several other services. The Executive lounge is closed on the weekend so your breakfast can either be on the menu or buffet, as well room service. In fact during the week you also have these three options.
The drinks at the bar included Chives 15 and the local 23 year old rum. The lounge had a great selection of liquor, which was unlimited. In addition you get two pressed and laundered garments per day, your shoes polished, and free WIFI.
The room was outstanding, being freshly renovated, with large crown moldings and a new large flat screen. The goodies included everything one can think of including some things I have never seen. This included special spray for the sheets, back scrubs, black sleeping blindfold, etc.
The staff was by far the best I have encountered in San Salvador, with everyone speaking coherent english!! All in all, this was perhaps the best Crown Plaza I have visited. The experience was equal to the best Hyatt's I have stayed in; with regards to staffing, management, overall grounds, room and amenities quality. ^:-::-::-::-:
Lastly I should note, that security is a big deal in El Salvador, where everything seems to be under armed guard (even ice cream stores) and there are huge fortified electrified walled compounds everywhere. At the Crown Plaza, you don't seem to notice the security presents, unlike the Presidente and the other properties around town.
In fact I liked the property so much, that I plan to return in December or January for a solid week or two. It makes a great base for exploring Central America!! :D
I thought the property was better than the Sheraton El Presidente.
