Asked question a couple of days ago and I think it got thrown in with "couple and small children go to HHV." Well this is a large child. (16, has played HS football). I'd like to know what to aim for as an upgrade. I'd like him in a different room, but that ocean, Diamond Head, sunset thing is nice too. My DH and I have been saving miles and points so long and this is our first big use of them. (Delta miles, HHonors points). We also realize this may be our last vacation with just the three of us. Our "baby" will be going away to college in 2 years. We want him to have a great time, but having that in a different room would make our time great too. 24 hours with a 16 year old boy can be tiring. I was thinking of using the romantic anniversary letter or email to try to get an upgrade, but to what rooms would that be. Great, seperate, glorious view. This is rambling, but in the past 3 years we've shared rooms in FL, Paris and London and 8 days is an awful long time. I'm really a loving Mom (its Mothers Day you know). Happy Mother's Day.

If you have Gold or Diamond status, you might just try the direct approach and call the hotel. I sometimes do that to find out what the hotel offers VIP members. If they respond that they offer upgrades if available, you could explain your situation and ask for their recommendation regarding which of the towers would best suit your needs. You could remain anonymous if you don't want to give your name. This might give you something to ask for in the e-mail or letter you plan, assuming no one else here on FT has specific recommendations for you. Alternatively, the person you speak with (I usually ask for the front desk) might even make a note in your reservation about your specific needs if you ask them to. I've had some good experiences doing this.
