I really fail to see the point of this Smart Carrier (Air One), especially for an airline like Alitalia that is still at the early stages further to the change of ownership and with much reduced operations compared to a few years ago (for the reasons that we all know). My point is: would it not be worth to have all flights from FCO and build a decent European network? I think it's just ridiculous that Alitalia doesn't currently fly to Prague from its main hub but instead has flights to the Czech capital from Pisa and Milan!

Well thats ridiculous then bungler..
I read the news and read the web and thats the first I've heard about it. Have some friends who travel regularly to athens with EZY ex MXP and they know nothing either...
They should advertise better
Where did you read about it? Where is it mentioned on AZ website?????

I agree with you that AP makes no sense anymore..
On the FCO point I see it differently.. But from Day 1 I've said this..
FCO is not CDG or AMS.. It cannot be the only hub for AZ and they've worked this out. Nobody is going to fly FROM Milan to Rome to Prague.. Just makes no sense..
I think that AZ is just looking at cashing in on the money routes.. With the demise of LHItalia they will probably take a look at a few routes from MXP and they will also look at some provincial airports like VCE / BLQ / TRN to expand on Euro routes...
PSA is interesting because you have Viareggio - Forte dei Marmi near by... No doubt some big spenders...

Milan - Athens has been bookable for at least a month now :)
For routes originating outside of Italy its even presented as the most favorable option, as it is actually cheaper than being routed through FCO.

With all the useless e mails I receive this was a piece of news that would have been useful to know
Did you find out whilst booking flights or did you read about it Xandrios?
Wierd thing is that I flew ATH - MXP with AP a few years back when they were partners with LH... Very very empty flight I recall....

Perhaps a future takeover by AF-KL will bring some much needed know-how

If my last flight with KL is anything to go by I'm not holding my breath!!!!
Worst longhaul J flight I've had in ages
Ideal would be flying Air France via Amsterdam with AZ longhaul food and the Bulgari amenity kit:D^

I have been flying KLM quite a lot this year (they always offer ridiculously cheap fares on the MAN-AMS-FCO route) and so far so good, but I'm talking about short flights. P.S.: only 30 segments to hit Gold on FB - what a bargain :D ^

No doubts you're asking too much there :D

I used to fly KL a fair bit and I always thought the Cityhoppers (with GREAT food) were amazing.. even with REAL freshly squeezed OJ
But now I found
-> shorthual catering poor
-> crown lounge in AMS very spacious but awful catering (hardly any food..)
-> longhaul J product outdated with bad service and pathetic catering. Really did think the food was a joke
Very pleasantly surprised by AF on the otherhand... Thought AF J was MILES ahead of KL and crew were superb (could have been luck but...)

Do you mean Business Class catering? Because I don't think [in this day and age] you could be unhappy about 2 sandwiches, a biscuit and cold/hot drinks in Economy Class on a relatively short flight such as AMS-FCO ;)

True.

Business. To be fair I had fond memories of KL and was just suprised how much KL had "cut back" on short haul catering...
Haven't flown Y with KL for ages (and not planning to any time soon...)

...and I cut back on business class flights [for leisure], at least on short haul ;) It is simply not worth paying £ 500 / 700 every time, mainly considering that I normally go down to Italy twice a month. I'm happy with the sandwiches and the biscuit in economy class

As soon as the summer season was put on sale so were these flights starting 20-30 september. ZAG was also expected but cancelled last month. A very minor publicisation was done around april and then a slightly more noticeable one was done starting in July in newsletters and such. The flights are now operational.
