Hilton HHonors - CC for statusView Full Version : CC for status frankhi Sep 21, 11, 10:40 am It great getting to be diamond just off of spending on my amex card. Are there other major chains do the same? Thanks sharklover Sep 22, 11, 8:26 am It great getting to be diamond just off of spending on my amex card. Are there other major chains do the same? Thanks SPG gives you gold for $30,000 spend. kenbo Sep 22, 11, 8:36 am SPG gives you gold for $30,000 spend. You also get Preferred Plus status just for having the card, if I'm not mistaken. That's practically Gold, minus the extra point per dollar. A different variation is the Marriott Visa, which gives 1 Elite night per $3K (I think?) spent on the card. jamesteroh Sep 22, 11, 8:42 am Marriott's visa also does. You get 10 qualifying nights credit towards elite status every year on their regular visa and 15 on their premier card and then 1 elite night credit for every $3k you spend on their credit card. It';s obvously a lot harder to get status with marriott with credit card use though. For gold you need 50 elite nights, so if you have a premier card that would be $105K a year in spending (15 nights credit given with the card plus the additional 35 nights at $3k spending per night). For Plantium it is 75 nights, so you would need $180K in spending (60 nights * $3k per night). But seeing people would be spending nights in hotels and those count as credit, it could be a great deal. If someone is spending 30 nights a year in a marriot property, and they get the premier card that would bump that would bump them up to 45 qualifying nights and they would have to spend another $15k on the marriott card which would get them up to 50 nights. Gold at Marriott does get you guaranteed lounge access plus guarantees your room type. PC's visa gets you instant gold. I think the Hilton Am Ex is a great card. The two things I hate about it are that Am Ex isn't as widely accepted and that they have a foreign transaction fee (PC and Marriott premier have no foreign transaction fees). JDiver Sep 22, 11, 8:46 am Iirc, American Express Platinum gives one SPG Gold status regardless of spend. For Hilton, I think Surpass is pretty much the only option for Diamond by spend. Of course, one can also negotiate / acquire HHonors status by purchasing HGVC - Gold or even Diamond, and even "permanent" Mutual Fund Account, for as long as the member is involved with HGVC after the purchase. toomanybooks Sep 23, 11, 12:02 pm Doesn't PC give you status for points gathered by any method whatsoever? I got some kind of status with them with no nights when they gave me 20K+ for that Hilton match thing last year. javacodeguy Sep 23, 11, 1:38 pm Doesn't PC give you status for points gathered by any method whatsoever? The Chase Visa Signature PC card gives you 60k or 80k points when you sign up, depending on the offer you received or can find. That's enough to automatically get Priority Club Platinum. And with $20k to $30k of spending you can maintain that status every year with the points you earn. |
