Other European Frequent Flyer Programs - 55 minutes connection in ATH
I'm planning a trip GVA-BKK in Early November on an award tix. I've been offered the following itin:
* GVA-ATH LX
* ATH-BKK TG
with a 55 minutes connection time.
Is it wise, considering the risk of Greece defaulting by then? I know that ATH is an easy airport for connections and that it should not be an issue but I'm interested in the views of the community.
Thanks

Greece already defaulted. Their loan refinancing actually put them in much better shape.
On the connection note, you should be fine.

ThanksWow, you're asking the FT community about their opinion on Greece's economy! If you get sound answers, we should ask our government to participate in the discussion. As for the connection, no problem, provided there are no delays (or... strikes.)

(or... strikes.)
This would be my main concern, let's hope it will work out somehow.

The problem is with all the strikes coming up as the savings kick in. In such cases LX will probably reroute you directly to BKK :D

Well, based on experience, you hear about both strikes and cancellations of strikes when it's already too late for you. So far, since the beginning of our "crisis", I've been stranded in several places on two continents. A3 and LX have been sympathetic and tried their best to help me, LH was exactly the opposite, adding insult to injury. AF always waited till the very last moment to help me (but they did). At any rate, if there is an air-controllers' strike (way too soon to know for a November trip), not only you won't make the connection, but neither will the flights from Switzerland and BKK make it to/from ATH. As you were told by oliver2002, LX would take care of you prior to departure by re-arranging your itin.

The nice thing about this itinerary is that you only have 55 minutes in which you have a chance to get stranded in ATH because of a strike!
If you had a 3 hour connection and the strike started while you were in ATH, it wouldn't be too pleasant...

I think you guys are too much looking at the "What if" scenario. I fly in and out of ATH at least 4 times per month (for years now), and have yet to experience a strike. I know that there have been a few, but chances that they hit you are small.

You are partly correct: Still, if you include all the times when an air-controllers' strike was disallowed by a court decision, usually at the very last moment, often forcing you to make necessary changes to your schedule, you do come up to about cases 10-15 during the last 12 months. Of course, you often have the possibility to change your itin, depending on the ticket and the time the strike was announced. At any rate, in my case, since last September I flew 22 times through Athens and 6 of these planned trips were delayed/cancelled/forced to change/etc. On these occasions, twice I spent the "extra" night at my home, but I also had to pay of an extra night in Athens, San Francisco, Frankfurt and London, which were obviously not reimbursed by anybody. Not much fun, is it?
