Religious Travelers - Lufthansa First Class Kosher Meal EZE-FRA by Stogel !?!

Recently, I flew with Lufthansa First Class from Buenos Aires (Argentina) to Frankfurt and was served an Economy Class Kosher Meal Box by Stogel from Antwerp (Belgium)! I wasn't upgraded; I had a First Class Ticket!

Has anyone ever been served a box like this in Lufthansa First Class? It was really weird that they didn't have any Kosher food made by a local caterer; on TAM from Buenos Aires to Sao Paulo I was served a great kosher meal by a local caterer called "Open Kosher". So Lufthansa could have used this or another caterer as there are plenty in Argentina...or why not serve food from Frankfurt where the plane departed from (Sohar's)? But why Stogel from Belgium?

Can anyone try to explain that? The head of the cabin crew was also in shock when he saw the black food box and told me to file a complaint; I doubt that this is really going to help or change anything...unless it was an exception and Lufthansa usually serves Kosher meals prepared by local Argentinian caterer.

Has anyone else (on F, C or Y - doesn't matter) had this on a Lufthansa flight from Argentina to Germany?

Attached are some pictures of a Stogel black food box in Lufthansa First Class :td:

Welcome to Flyertalk! :)

That experience is very disturbing...IŽd definitely complain. I have no personal experience with ordering kosher food, but have flown LH many times and IIRC the special meals in C/F looked reasonably decent, definitely much better than what you received.

IŽd ask for your thread to be moved to the LH forum where some regular flyers will be able to make more detailed comments.

Doesn't look like anything that should be served in F. I suspect that the requested kosher F meal wasn't loaded and this was the only glatt kosher meal they had on board. Might also be a good idea to file a complaint with LH. There probably should be some form of compensation.

Wow, that is pretty lazy on LH's part.

I agree with Jasper2009. You should ask to have this moved to the Lufthansa Miles&More forum, where I'm sure you will find others who've dealt with bad service like this. :)

Looks like basically the same exact dreck I was served on LAN in J EZE/LIM. The things in the tins are exactly the same as are the crackers. This was over a year ago. Probably every KSML out of EZE is the same delight, no matter what route and class.

Is this the kosher dog meal for first class? It's truly insulting for an airline with an unbelievable reputation for great kosher meals to serve long life meals that contain nothing but some crackers in fancy packaging that last 5 years.

Its one thing to get such a meal on an airline that may see a kosher flyer every few months. Another for Lufthansa!

I just came across this thread. While it may not be true for LH, many airlines (except for flights to/from TLV) serve only one kind of kosher meal. It is not FC quality but it is far ahead of the Economy meal.

Indeed, it is often marked on the box that it is for both classes.

It is a compromise which allows them not to have to store both Economy and FC kosher meals. In fact, even though I do not keep kosher, I often ask for kosher meals when not flying in/out of Israel if I am going to be in an Economy seat.

(Interestingly enough, it was a well-traveled Catholic priest who taught me this trick years ago. He told me he never flies in the front cabin and thus always asks for kosher meals.)

It is a different situation for flights from Israel. Here, the airlines can get meals from the same caterers as those who service El Al and thus buy both Economy and FC kosher meals. Some go one step more and buy them here for upcoming flights to Israel as well.
