I didn't quite know where to post this thread, so here goes.

I've been researching fares to all the places I want to go & it seems as though fares to Europe from Texas are $2,000-$3,000 sometimes during the summer. I understand it's the peak travel season & everyone wants a taste of the sunshine, but when it's more than twice and approaching thrice a winter fare, it seems rather outrageous to me.

Pardon my ignorance, but why is it set up this way? Is there a reason in particular? Just supply & demand? Thanks in advance.

I'm going to move this over to the South US Forum, where your fellow Americans will probably be able to explain in detail. However, in brief, it's because it is the summer holidays, when everybody wants to go away somewhere. Supply and demand. If people weren't willing to pay, then the airlines wouldn't be able to charge. You may also be trying to fly from a fortress airport, which exarcebates the problem.

Just remember too that the Olympics are in London next summer. Many Americans will fly into or out of other cities in Europe to get there or take side trips. This is in addition to the traditionally high demand that the summer brings.
