We (US and German citizens) inherited a property (bare land) in Costa Rica. Now we need to figure out some information about legalities. Can anybody recommend reading material that would give us some information?

Are you planning to sell ? obscure2k Sep 18, 11, 5:50 pm Please follow this thread in the FT Central America Forum. Thanks.. Obscure2k TravelBuzz Moderator MrHalliday Sep 18, 11, 5:53 pm I have no specific details, but I think CR is trickier than Panama, for example. I heard some horror stories about the "squatter's law", but I guess that is only as problem with developed property. wolfie_cr Sep 18, 11, 7:23 pm is your question related to how to get the property under your name? pedropescador Sep 19, 11, 9:55 pm From what I have figured out so far it appears that we will have to form a corporation in CR and transfer the property into that corporation. Seems all pretty straight forward. Hire a lawyer and have him/her take care of it. I was just wondering if there are any pitfalls that one should avoid. wolfie_cr Sep 20, 11, 7:35 pm I can recommend you a reputable lawyer (my eyes hurt to see those two words together LOL) one of the things, our marvelous goverment down here is money hungry and is actively trying to pay a tax on corporations.....you may have to pay property tax (which can be a stupidly low amount) if there are taxes due of course where is your property if you can forgive my curiosity |
