Hello all. I don't post much on Flyertalk, but I am an avid reader and supporter (and it appears one of the oldest members). I was also a member of "The List" which was unfortunately shut down last September to my great disappointment.

I hope the other (former) discreet members don't mind sharing their experiences about the big weekend that should be taking place in San Diego as I type this message, as I have a few suites booked in Lexington, and am curious to know what will happen if I indeed show up next month. My reservation is still in the system, and available on-line, but I haven't received any correspondence from HH since my e-mail confirmation of the reservation.

I hope you guys who made the trip weren't disappointed, and had a blast.

Best Regards,

hookmeup

As of Friday, I still held reservations for Easter and now today they show cancelled which of course I did not do. Recourse other than taking them to Small Claims Court for the difference in what I have to pay and a nasty letter to Hilton?

Well the few of the original 0 dollar rate holders who ACTUALLY WENT ( which I think was Hiltons point) had a great time. The compromise offer was 0 for the first nite on one room only and 74 a nite after that.

About 30 people ended up gathering in SAN but it was us 'regular' flyertalkers - I think maybe 5 or 6 0 rooms actually got used.
The thread on the gathering is in communities

I have 4 suites confirmed for Friday April 26, checking out the following Friday. I wasn't sure if I would be able to go when I booked them, because I was working in Latin America, but now it appears that I might just be able to take some days off for my first visit to Kentucky Derby-land.

I was considering cancelling a couple of the rooms (as I don't think I'll need them), but then thought about what would happen when the reservationist saw my rates, and decided against it.

So if anyone is interested in meeting me there, let me know (maybe I should move this to the communities board), and maybe we can play some tennis or a round of golf on Saturday.

For those who stayed at the Mission Valley Hilton, was it worth the $74? Others have posted Priceline bids for properties closer to downtown like $50/night for the Hilton-Harbor Island. Thanks for the advice.

Do yourself a huge favor and visit Keeneland Race Track. It is easily one of the most beautiful tracks in the world. Keeneland also has a very limited racing schedule.

You will be there on the last day, see:

Have fun and enjoy!

Drop me a note if you need some more info on Kentucky. I grew up there, and can point you in the direction of some great stuff, depending what you're interested in.

We're known not only for fine race horses, but fine basketball players as well http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks for the info, guys. I'll definitely do some research, and I appreciate having some locals to bounce questions off of. If anybody needs a room for that week, let me know!

Actually, Louisville, not Lexington is Kentucky Derby-land but Lexington does take its racing more seriously. There is a Kentucky Derby FT event in the Community forum; you're more than welcome to attend!

I stayed at the Mission Valley Hilton. It was a nice place and a great place to relax. If you don't have a car, it's hard to get to without a cab. If you want relaxing, go for it. If you want to see san diego, stay downtown.

Message on my voicemail yesterday:

"I was just calling to let you know that you have a reservation on April 26 for 7 night for 4 rooms, and unfortunately these reservations came through at a zero rate while there was a problem that the Hilton reservations had back in August. We did have to put it in at the current rack rate which is our lowest current rate possible at $129 plus tax. If you have any questions regarding this reservation, you can call anyone here at our hotel and ask to speak to reservations."

No thanks, I think I'll cancel instead.

Last year I found a CAD$0 rate for the Delta Whistler online & booked 3 possible sets of dates (3-nights each.) I even got a confo e-mail listing the $0 rate! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif A month later I called to check & they had increased the rate to C$179 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif, so I cancelled because the Westin was lower @$159 & I needed to earn my FreeFridays! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Did anyone else get the Hilton-San Diego to honor the zero rate? My daughter just got back from a week's stay and they honored the rate. They forgot to cancel her reservation and when she showed up they tried to charge her what they had offered in an email cancelling the $0 rate. She argued with them and the manager( our famous Mr Foster) called corporate and they let her stay for free.

Even though I'm Diamond and love to stay at Hilton, I had to go downtown to the Marriott because my reservations were cancelled. Hilton are you listening! I was impressed by Marriott and now plan to split my stays up. I never would have thought this way until the poor treatment by this particular general manager. I have been very impressed by Adam, but it's amazing what an incident like this does to your comfort level. Hilton is still great in my opinion, but now I must look at options.

I had reservations for 4 rooms for the Lexington Hilton for this past weekend (4/5-4/6). I received a call from the Lexington Hilton on Monday (4/1) where they essentially said that they had an internet glitch back in August and they were not going to honor the $0 rate. They were going to offer my rooms to me at somewhat of a discount - but were not going to offer the first night as complimentary as the San Diego Hilton was offering. I just told them to cancel the rooms. Lexington was within driving distance, so the good thing was that I did purchase a plane ticket to get there.
