Midwest - Transportation from DTW to Renaissance Center?

I searched the forums to see if there was any transportation from the airport to the Renaissance Center. I don't see anything except the Smart Bus. Does anyone know of shuttles? I have a party of four, so we could possibly share a taxi, but I would rather take a shuttle van if possible.

You can really use the term shuttle and Detroit in the same sentence.

Best bet is a cab or Metro cars... (which could be cost effective)

Think Bob mean't you can't use Detroit and shuttle in the same sentence....everything else about his answer is correct.

I found a shuttle after doing some research. I can reserve a 5-passenger van from Carmel Car & Limo Service. I am not sure if anyone has used them from DTW, so I will continue to look around to see if it's worth doing. I really wish a subway went from downtown to DTW, but it looks like reserving a larger car might be the way to go here. I don't think it's worth taking the SMART bus to downtown, and a taxi ride could be crowded unless the vehicles are vans instead of a sedan.

Have you looked into Metro Cars or Metro Cabs?

The only airports in this part of the country with direct rail transit to downtown are CLE, MDW, ORD and SLC.

.... and the only thing in the DTW that comes close to being that type of transit is the Detroit People Mover and it covers a grand total of 1.3 miles.

I'm going back to DTW next year. I have returned from my trip and found that using Carmel Car & Limo Service was a terrible idea. First, it was not a minivan as promised but a regular town car. So 4 of us were squished into the car. Then we had to pay the extra parking fee of $10. Next time I'll try the Metro Cab.

These are the DTW approved ground transportation suppliers: http://metroairport.com/transportation/

Metro Cars are typically Lincoln Town Cars, but it looks like they have other options if you want to reserve them.

Metro Cab is going to be your typical cab - you get what you get, maybe a mini-van, maybe an Impala, etc.
