Trackitback is also listed as a subscription but that's not detering anyone from purchasing from them. ;)
I'm in the group with the belief that any order will be sufficient. At 10% (+/-) the cost of wine I'll take the chance and report back.

If you're comfortable with it, be my guest.
Last year, Vinesse was difficult about not giving miles for those who did not purchase the wine package. They gave some points quickly to some who purchased the wine guide, but then started getting difficult. They ultimately relented after many harrassed them by e-mail and asked US to intervene, because the landing page from the US site said that "accessories" or something like that would get miles. They've changed the language this year and it says you get 4 miles for each "additional" $1, which is pretty clearly intended to be "additional" to the wine package.
So, you may not even get a hit at all. But if you do, the subscription penalty is too severe for me. If Vinesse gives you a hit for a wine guide and then reports to the US in March that you're not a "subscriber," whatever the heck that means, and you feel like you'll prevail, be my guest. Everyone has different levels of risk they are comfortable with.
Personally, I've decided I'm either going to buy the wine package or I'm going to pass on Vinesse. To each his own.

Great. Good luck. I'm not sure what good reporting back will do, since it stays risky until March.
One difference, though, is that you have to be a bit sneaky to get miles for a non-wineclub purchase through Vinesse to get miles. As I understand it, you have to add the package to your cart, then add the guide or other cheap option, then delete the club. Maybe there's another way, but that's how people gamed it last year and that's the only way I can find to do it this year. (Edit -- I see it's easier this year.) There does not appear to be anything on the web site, or on US's page, that says a non-club purchase counts for miles, and the subscription language is pretty clearly designed to prevent exactly that.
I think trackitback is, in comparison, just a mistake. They shouldn't have been added to the subscription stuff and are unlike all the others which are definitely a subscription, and there's no doubt that when you log on to their web site you are absolutely entitled to earn miles for the $19 (or whatever) item. The US site and the Vinesse site talk about getting miles for a wine club, and the USAirways T&C are, to my reading, broad enough that you're definitely at risk if you've taken a hit from Vinesse and are not a subscriber in March 2012.
I very sincerely hope I will never say "I told you so," but be absolutely certain that I will if it comes to it. :) Ultimately, it doesn't matter to me what people choose, but I do think it's important that it's an informed choice, since this is a new thread that is separate from the other thread talking about the risk of the subscription partners.

I understand your position but as I never subscribed to a service, merely ordered something, either I get the hit or I don't. The T&C's specifically said cancellation before May 14 would result in full forfeiture, there's nothing for me to cancel.
I also believe that the wording of the site is such that bonus miles are strictly for subscriptions, but miles are accrued for other purchases.
We shall see. Upon checkout I was asked for me DM# so time will tell.

I think it is much easier for US to wirte more clearly what's a hit and whats a fail.
In my opinion:
if you get miles from vinesse (others than from subscription) you get miles - but there is no hit.
And if there is no hit - there is nothing to fear for :)

They are probably gambling on the side of you getting the wine subscription as thats the more profitable option. If they say you can get other non-package items, everyone will do just that and they won't profit as much.

While it is in the other thread, nobody needed to bump this one after weeks of inactivity only to confuse others looking for the most recent info. Next year I hope there will either be 1 thread for each partner OR an a mod will merge splinter threads to minimize confusion.

While it is in the other thread and nobody needed to bump this one from the depths, next year I hope there will be 1 thread for each partner and the mods can merge splinter threads.
As I've said before, this is a wonderful idea in theory that completely falls apart in practice:
That means literally dozens of partner threads, plus assorted other threads (How Many Hits?, etc).
Those threads will be spread across several pages of the forum home, making it harder to find the right one even if a user makes an effort to do so.
Experience here and now -- both in this subforum and elsewhere on FT -- is that there is, alas, no shortage of users too stupid or too lazy to bother finding (and then posting in) the right thread.
The result will be many more duplicative/overlapping threads. My impression is that our mods are overworked as it is, and would likely not be able to police this effectively. (I don't mean to discuss specific moderator actions when I point out that there are now 3 separate "foul ball" threads, two of which have absolutely no independent justification IMO.)
Most importantly, the likelihood that any given user will read/understand what's going on in the typical thread declines exponentially according to thread length. The result is an endless series of repeated questions, and consequently a negative feedback cycle in which the latest noise further drowns out useful signal.
Many of these ill effects can be reduced or eliminated by having each thread's OP diligently maintain a clear, concise summary of the relevant info about hit status, posting cycle, cheap items, known problem issues, etc.
A few brave souls -- lowfareair and rob_flies_ua -- have stepped up to the plate for the hotel transfers and stays threads. However, other threads (points.com & car rentals leap to mind) have only partial summaries (done by me as a stopgap because I happened to own a post on the first page of each of those threads).
Still other threads -- like the one you are reading right now, and the ballyhooed breakaway OfficeMax thread -- have absolutely no running summary at all, let alone one that's short and coherent.
As there aren't enough dedicated people to manage the few "splinter" threads we have this year, I see no reason whatsoever to believe that such people would come forward in a one-thread-per-partner regime next year.
Anyone who claims that "one thread per partner" is a better approach is, IMO, simply ignoring a mountain of empirical evidence to the contrary. I'd even go further and say that anyone who isn't curating a thread right now is plainly not part of the solution.

Beltway, according to your logic we might as well just have one thread for everything. Heck, why even have a GS forum? Why not just have one huge thread in milesbuzz or the DM forum. A better solution in the absence of FT bringing the forum software to 2011 and providing a wiki post for anyone to edit, is to give you or whomever is volunteering to summarize info moderator access for the GS forum. Then there would be no reason why a separate thread for each hit wouldn't work. The problem with your approach right now is there is no way to control splinter threads. It would work far better if the mods merged splinter threads. That would solve the problem of splinter threads that are inevitable for either approach.

Actually, we did have one gargantuan thread in past years. It was unwieldy and insanely hard to keep up with, given the amount of traffic. However, it also had an OP who made a good-faith effort to compile certain key info (cheap hits) in the first post, which made a big difference.
As it happens, I think it's better on balance to have more than one thread. The Hotel Stays, Hotel Transfers, and (yes, I'll say it immodestly) the Other Partners threads have carved up a lot of difficult territory and managed to put useful, current information into the hands of anybody capable of finding post #1. (As an aside, though, I do wonder where the sub-forum is going to be moved once GS2011 is over. A single thread just drops down the list, but a sub-forum is structural.)
I think you're missing the point when you suggest that it would be nothing but ponies and rainbows if only the mods, or volunteer citizen mods, could better police the random idiots who start new threads to announce their latest hits (or ask questions already within the scope of other threads). To recap my earlier post, we face a known set of problems:
thread over-proliferation (sprawl)
volume and variety of the information, both as to GS rules and as to various partners (complexity)
a certain amount of baseline human stupidity/laziness (dimwit factor), which leads in turn to
pointless/repetitive posts that lower the signal/noise ratio (static)
These are, of course, closely interrelated. Complexity provokes more static, as does the dimwit factor, and so on. But even if we could entirely eliminate the dimwit factor and sprawl via superhuman feats of moderation, complexity is the root of the problems, which is why you need curators, summarizers, rapporteurs -- call them what you will -- to digest and organize the raw data.
Doing that requires the curator to
follow the discussion closely
be able to weigh the relative weight of various data points (which will invariably conflict, either because GS partners are erratic or because FT posters are sometimes just plain dolts who have no idea what they're talking about)
organize and distill the essential info
into a short, readable reference work
Without such a curator, a thread is just a linear jumble. So dimwit factor aside, even clueful posters will be constantly asking (and re-asking) questions because there's no easy way to find answers. That static produces more static, and eventually we wind up with the heat death of the universe.:td: (Case in point: the uncurated OfficeMax thread now has 160+ posts, far more than the typical reader will bother to wade through. And it's a train wreck.)
Right now, with only mild thread sprawl, there aren't enough people willing to curate threads. Unless a cadre of magic unicorns steps in to do that job, creating one thread next year for each of literally dozens of partners is pretty much a lock to produce a perfect storm of static, dimwitted and otherwise. Why would you want that?

Well, if you don't believe me,
credible FT members report receiving US miles for recent purchases of individual items (including accessories) ; it remains to be seen whether this activity will qualify as a hit., as well as receiving hit credit in the 9/28 sweep.
then you can search for "VINESSE.COM" in the How Many Hits? or Other Partners threads and see for yourself.

The terms and conditions of GS don't require you to be a new member of Vinesse; they simply require a purchase. The questions earlier in this thread about subscribing arose because the landing page from the US website put you in the subscription section of the website. Good marketing, but not part of the T&Cs (or the rules where they supplement).
In fact, except where subscription is specifically required in the T&Cs to earn a hit, it would appear that any partner will earn a hit no matter whether a subscription is included as part of the products offered. The analogy appears to be with the Audience Rewards hit where purchasing a ticket was originally thought required and now earning miles through trivia will apparently do the trick.

I joined the Vinesse- Am. Cellars Wine Club, 6/23/11 when the promo on US Airways was for 5k miles after the 2nd order shipped. I received the first 6 bottles quickly and 19 days later received the 2nd order. I cancelled in early Aug. just days before the 3rd order arrived; I had been told to refuse it when I cancelled. My enrollment bonus and extra bonus of 1K each posted 9/23/11. Ok - here is a odd one. My wife ordered the cabernet book a couple of weeks ago. At the time she registered for an account and they sent her a confirmation email with her name/address etc...
Anyways fast forward 7-10 I start to wonder about the posting of miles so I try to log in to her account but it doesn't seem to exist. I tried to use her order number and email address etc.. but the site just didn't recognize it. She hadn't been charged yet on her credit card so I assumed they just canceled the order since they were running out of the books.
Fast forward another week and I log into my 1 year olds's account and surprise - there is a posting from today for the Vinesse order (which also happened to arrive today). Checked and wife's card was charged a few days ago.
I may have later gone in and tried to do a dummy order for my son using his DM number and judging by the info in the thread above, it sounds like the Vinesse website will readily transfer info around in the accounts if you log in using multiple numbers on the same computer. Still - I never actually ordered anything deliberately for my son on there.
So bottom line, now that this has posted should I chalk it up as a hit for him or do I need to worry about it getting taken back?

I did one order with Vinesse for DM account #1, then another for DM account #2 (different name but same address). Both orders ended up getting credited to DM account #2.

The best advice posted to date:
Vinesse should come with a huge warning: They post miles to the account number that is listed in your Vinesse account on day the miles are awarded. It is very difficult to create multiple accounts with Vinesse and when you try to sign up for a new account they will often just change your old account information. When this happens the old information, including any US Airways account numbers, is replaced with your newest information.
The net effect is that Vinesse purchases should be done in serial. You need to see the miles from a purchase before you can place the next order.

For Vinesse with 2 accounts how did you set up the accounts - did you have 1 or 2 Vinesse accounts - e.g. 1 vinesse account - dm1, order, then switch to dm2, order again? Or, vinesse1+dm1, and vinesse2+dm2?

so i cancelled the 2nd order..

different browser would also work as long as shipping address etc different-
edit diff browser doesnt work, different address doesnt work
if same credit card then you get redirected automatically to the old member no
very annoying

i got it to work separately by changing my billing address a bit.
surely there must be an easier way but i cant find it

When I go into my GF's account it says "Welcome, Kevin". Kevin is her brother who we shipped one of the books to. It seems they used shipping address to set up her account. It didn't step on my account even though we have the same billing address. If so, a possible solution may be to ship one purchase to another address. That said, I did do the orders a week apart.

Two accounts I manage had Vinesse post without any difficult.
The third account I recently ordered a superfluous book. Called today to cancel once I saw new 'stuff' on their website for cheaper but was informed that, even though it had yet to be shipped, it could not be canceled. It's $5 more than what's currently on offer, but that's life.
I'm also seeing the apron at $9.95 and with shipping coming to $13. Quite interesting to see variable pricing.

Mrs. dwcatty got her hit from Vinesse today and I did not, although my order was placed sooner and has arrived while hers has not. So I called Vinesse. It seems they had my points preference set to Choice, as last year in the GS I used a Vinesse order to get (4,000?) Choice points which added to my meager balance I then transferred for a hit.
The CS rep was very cool about it - he could tell I entered Vinesse this year through the US portal, but because my last points related purchase was with Choice my account defaulted to Choice. He manually made a notation in the file, withdrew the points from Choice (which had not yet posted there), and credited them to US. I would expect the hit next Friday.
The guys at Hertz called this a scavenger hunt when I explained the GS to them, and that is what it is. The real question is, are we having fun yet?

New to the GS game and I am too stupid to notice the T&C. I subscribed Netfix and Vinesse, and now I know if I cancel Vinesse, all the miles I earned will be voided.
Considering Vinesse costs about $60-$70 per month for the subscription, I don't think it is wise to keep it to May, 2012.
I have done 20 hits and do you guys have any ideas to help me?

This is a contentious subject. The order was placed Tuesday. On Wednesday, when new items appeared online, I attempted to cancel the order on the phone but was told that was not possible as it was already in motion.... Today it's still not shipped.

Good to see others are experiencing a quick post of points, but I am not doing well with my order made Oct. 13. Rec'd e-mail that it would be shipped the 14th, nothing rec'd to date. (I ordered the $15 wine tasting notebook which was the least expensive item at the time.) Sent an e-mail on Friday, then received message that they don't respond to e-mails, you must call M-F 8-5. Tried calling Monday and person answered who requested I give him my name & number for a return call because they were too busy to talk. I tried calling back later, same thing, tried to give him my number he couldn't hear me and hung up. Called back and a girl answered who had time to talk, although she didn't have a clue what was happening with the order. She tried to ask two supervisors but they were unavailable. Promised she would call back by the end of the day, but of course that didn't happen.
Definitely won't ever purchase wine from this company with the poor customer service. Their web site is very strange. I see less expensive things now, so maybe will try to cancel and order something else.

It appears Vinesse is intentionally jacking up their prices. If you compare some of these books available for 2010 GS, you will notice the unreasonable price hike. Also their Apron was priced at $7 when it first came out and quickly increased to $9.95. The Wine Cooler went from $9.99 with free shipping to $20 when they first sold out their first lot. Similarly, Trackitback last year had a digital product for something like $15 that qualified for Dividend miles, this year they still sell the digital TrackItBack but don't sell it on their US Airways landing page and effectively restrict that only certain products qualify for US Airways Miles. Under normal circumstances, these products don't really appeal to many of us and are hard for them to sell. As expected, they milk them while they can with the GS. It's all demand and supply. We only buy them coz we can get higher returns from the miles we get and these Grand Slam partners/retailers keep pushing to see what prices we will bear.

A buddy of mine who used to work for the Wine Appreciation Guild in S. San Francisco laughed when I told him this.
All their prices are jacked up because they know people will buy them anyway.
It's likely the same reason they refused to cancel an order I placed, which wasn't shipped until 8 days later, when cheaper merchandise hit the site.
GS is like a cops and robbers scenario. We continuously find ways to cheaply overcome the hurdles and the vendors are reacting in a delayed, but to them sensible, way.
NB: Not that I'm saying we're the robbers, but you get the drift.

I've received two Wine Tasting Notebooks that are very different. One was hardback, with a good 200+ pages; the other is softbound & has only 50-70 pp. Because I received them as freebies from Grand Slammers outside the US (who needed a domestic shipping address to keep costs down), I can't say what price the purchasers paid for each.

I just got my wine guide. It's a cheap paper note book that appears to have been returned to them and they figured they'd sell it to me. It has a piece of scotch tape on the cover and an X marked on it (for damage I think). The back cover has a huge gash in it. The color wrap around the note book is all discolored and has ink smudges on it. I guess the people at Vinesse feel that if we are dumb enough to pay the inflated prices we are dumb enough to keep them and not complain.
Nope, I'm going to complain.

I want to place a repeat order (since the wine book is sould out)for an existing account. Before submit the order I realized that there is no field to put in the US DM number. Any idea how to finalize the order in combination with my Dm number ?

Dont log into your account, start from the line on the US Airways site and do your shopping - at checkout you can put in your DM# - if I remember :o

Should I be concerned if I've put an order after logging in to the account? I thought they have my DM number on file. Should I contact the customer service?

Does Vinesse have a promotion department, or is there someone there who's familiar with how Vinesse posts? I hear that the activity date is erratic so I'd like to make sure I don't miss the cutoff.

Their IT is a desaster (not safe if you login with the same recipients address. )
Also Miss Malo***, a Service Representative appears confused in her emails.:td:

Donate them to goodwill and jack up the worth.
then you'll get a hit and a tax deduction. :D
Of course, this is a joke. But, donate them to charity using a fair market value, and get a tax deduction for your donation.

Hi folks,
any idea if this order will count as a hit?
-ordered 11/08
-shipped 11/09
---on its way through the country
-- supposed to be delivered due tracking: 11/15
I read that activity date should be shipping date posted on the following Friday, i.e. tomorrow. Is that right or does it have to be delivered first?
hell, I`m getting a little uneasy.

Activity date will probably be the shipping date (that's been the case for most of these orders but there have been a few exceptions) and I am guessing it will post tomorrow. You should be fine.

Drank the bottle of wine, friday night not a big wine guy but it was half decent. However GF loved it. Maybe a little expensive when you figure in shipping but the brownie points were well worth it, over buying a throwaway book.

I've got all the hits I need, but I am disappointed that Vinesse.com has not posted for me.
$12.95 order placed on 28th October.
Item on bank statement...
10 Nov VIS INT'L 0084222343
AFF*AMERICANCELLRS
805-496-0595
USD 12.95 @ 1.5527
£8.34
...which I assume is the same thing.
Still nothing in dividend miles.
Do you think that this is worth chasing?
I have no idea if the product (apron) has been delivered as the recipient received many.

I had very similar, particularly annoyingly it posted correctly on one account but not another. They have ignored my email, may need to ring.

Yes it appeared twice for me (once for my wife) but only her points posted. Very annoyingly for a non-resident they have no email address advertised and you need to phone. Very annoying since by email you can just forward the order email and ask why you haven't received points and can do out of business hours.

Can report that once I found a email address this was resolved fairly quickly.
First reply was that we allocated to account yyyyyyyyyy (which wasn't mine) to which I replied that I had cut and pasted my dividend miles no. so couldn't understand how their system had mistakenly assigned and can they please fix. Referred to redemption and resolved within 2 days.

My Vinesse has finally hit after a delay of 41 days. Burmans' email contact worked for me, even though she was actually in a different department. Once my message was passed to the "partner department" I received the miles on the same day.
This was my last outstanding hit, but in the end it didn't matter, as I'd done a couple of "safety"s. However, the 50 miles did post with the correct(ish) activity date, so I think Vinesse can be trusted to get it right if you notify them.
PM me if you need the e-mail contact, as I am slightly wary of posting it in an open forum.
